There is no harm in making a draft even if the idea has been tried before. If a map is good-looking and has had some thought put into it, people will almost always accept it. What could be bad about having a well made map, even if you personally do not like the concept?
I would suggest putting up a draft of the map, since then people will get an idea of the size and the gameplay you intend for it, along with the type of graphics.
Make sure you put some thought into it first before you post anything. Don't just throw something together for the sake of having a "draft". Otherwise, people will not take you seriously, and once they visit a thread and see a shoddy draft, they will not return to see updates.
INFO Name: Battle of Yorktown Cartographer: tlane with little help from the.killing.44 Territories: 36 Continents: 5, 7 counting the ships Special Features: all ships can bombard each other
The french ships and the british ships need to be swiched. The French got there first and cut off accses to the penninsula for the British ships. Also there was no naval fighting, since the Brithish ships were only sent down to deliver supplies to the british general Cornwallace.
how does it make sense that all boats can bombard all boats? I would think that the ships would only worry about the ships that poses an immediate treath to its existence, and the cannons of that time really didnt have that impressive ranges...
there was in fact a very large naval battle - it just took place before the siege of Yorktown. If you want to remain accurate you can take out the British ships , set the French ones up in blockade form, and allow them to bombard certain territories (especially the one where York town actually was!). OR you could keep the British ships and ignore the fact that the naval battle took place a mere 20 days earlier in the same location. Either way - the ships should attack each other, and bombard land territories.
here are a couple of options: 1) take out British ships - allow French ships to bombard Yorktown proper, and make this an objective map (ie. hold all French ships and Yorktown to win the game - with this scenario you could make Yorktown and the ships neutral territories).
2) leave in the British ships - allow all ships to attack each other - but allow British ships to bombard rebel terts (which you would have to mark maybe with a flag or a color) and allow French ships to bombard British terts (which you would also have to mark). With this option you could also make it an objective map - or just a classic style. I think either way could work.
As far as graphics go - you've got the same problem the.killing had with one of his - too much legend (or key) not enough map. You don't need a huge title or a huge key - instead those should take up as little room as possible and the majority of it should be actual map space.
One more gameplay thing: your bonuses don't really work - they'll need a lot of adjustments - and are the land masses going to connect in any other way?
People who know Tyler and who (a) obviously were asked by him to comment, (b) haven't played many maps (england19), just leave real feedback instead of saying that at this stage it is the 2nd best map on CC.
I like number 1 and 3 the best - because I like the idea of having bombardments. I voted for number 1 - i like that better out of those two for a couple reasons...
1) its more historically accurate to the "Battle of Yorktown" which was the siege that took place in late September-October of '81. 2) its less confusing than #3.
I think number 1 has the most potential.
Graphics wise - I like that you've made more room for the map... although now the territories look stretched. Can you try to make the more proportional and accurate looking?
The bonuses still need tweeking - but let's take it one step at a time.
From a historical point of veiw, the just french is better, but from a gameplay point of veiw, I think the naval battle would be better. I honestly don't know what to pick. I think it is comming along nicely though! I greatly anticipate the results of the poll.
