I would have expected 500 fur coats, with that kind of money.

I like the space exploration idea floated earlier (pun intended

) but I wonder if $500,000,000 is enough to get far. Maybe a space hotel, for Space Ship Three to serve.

Invest in people who want to make computer games I like, who want to evolve design/culture/art in a direction i think is cool and help out people who have smart ideas around making life better for those at the bottom of the shit heap.

That would be me. 500 Million is kind of the low-end for human space exploration. I think you could go to the Moon with that money, but probably not Mars or beyond.

So as much as I'd want to go to space, I'd probably go with cheaper unmanned exploration. The MSL (Mars Science Lab), which landed about a year ago if you remember, cost about $2.5 Billion USD I think. However, the prior missions for Spirit and Opportunity, the two smaller rovers, was closer to $800 Million USD. And the Hubble Space telescope was good $2-3 Billion USD probably as well. Dawn, the spacecraft that visited the asteroid Vesta and now is visiting Ceres, another nearby asteroid, was less than $500 Million USD I think.

So here's to hoping.
