lol... i assumed they represented the blue ridge mountains as this was the location of a very significant strategy move by a general in days past. Let me explain...
During the American Civil War (known by some as the war of northern aggression), the infantry under Confederate General Stonewall Jackson earned the nickname "foot cavalry" by traveling very quickly across the Blue Ridge Mountains which really messed up the Union leaders opposing them. Jackson used a detailed knowledge of the gaps in the Blue Ridge range to accomplish this, as well as marching his troops through the original Blue Ridge Tunnel.
Oh my... I just HAVE TO say something about this too... there were four tunnels in all, the longest one, the Blue Ridge Tunnel was 4/5 of a mile long. It was dug from both sides though solid granite with only hand drills and black powder, a decade before the invention of dynamite. SOLID GRANITE! Imagine that! The tunnel was less than a half-foot off perfect alignment when it was holed-through on Christmas Day 1856, 117 years before GPS (Global Positioning System) was invented! When complete, it was the longest in the US and one of the longest tunnels in the world, a remarkable feat of engineering. Opened to rail traffic in April of 1858, it was considered to be one of the engineering wonders of the modern world.
Anyway, based on these historical references, I think steels' avatar is just fine... unless of course, he is blue coat!
