I think that people make to big a deal about Kennedy being the first Catholic president.

There were rumors that he had an affair with her but I didn't come across anything that said he did.

I do not see why someone would call Kennedy the best. I don't know if the Monroe rumor is true but if it is it is something to be ashamed of not proud of.

No. Every president has made a few bad decissions but if Kennedy did cheat then that is something to be ashamed of however I do not believe that he did such a thing.

The phrase "I am still wondering who CHOOSE Hickory" is incorrect. What you meant to say was "I am still wondering who CHOSE Hickory" which is correct. So, while spell check is great, it does not check for grammar. Therefore, you spelled the word "choose" correctly, but failed to account for the proper use of the word in the sentence. Hope that helps.

I have heard that when this country was founded that the only people allowed to vote were White Male Protestants. Washington must of had many prejudices if he wanted things to be that although I could be wrong maybe it was only congress that thought that way and Washington was not able to git legislation to change that past them. I was wondering if any of you know more about that.

A perfect example of people makeing a big deal over presidential firsts. Obama the first black, Kennedy the first Catholic. They made a big deal over H. clinton almost being the first women president and Romney almost being the first Mormon why does any of that matter.

None of those things have (had) happened in over two hundred years of history. It shows that we've made a lot of progress as a country. That's reason to celebrate, I think. Just the same as it was reason to celebrate the first man on the moon, the first working vaccine, etc.

I think JJM is referring to them being considered great presidents becauase they were the firsts in history. I sort of agree in that I don't understand why President Kennedy is included in the discussion of greatest presidents apart from his incredible charisma and that he was Catholic (which seems more of a hindrance to being considered great in much of this country).

Speaking of racially motivated voting, my family really rallied around Michael Dukakis back in the day.

Why celebrate a crook becoming president.

Slightly more limited in that they also had to own land. Though I can't really say Washington was the cause of this, as he was either busy fighting the Brits, or busy figuring out what the hell a President is supposed to do.

It does seem odd.
