Okay, get out your ripped jeans and flannels. Hit up a thrift store if you are lacking such clothes.
Grow out your hair and stop washing it for 6 days. Then dye it pink, or green.
Now you are sufficiently grunge enough to answer the following question:
Nirvana or Pearl Jam?

It might be cheating to tell you this, but the correct answer is Nirvana.

I never understood what it was about Nirvana, I'm not crazy about them.
Pearl Jam, on the other hand, is awesome.
I guess I'm going with the wrong answer.

Pearl Jam for me.
Albeit I've seen them live (3rd row center.... BOOYAH) and not Nirvana.
While I like Nirvana's first 2 albums, the Kurt Cobain craze (comparing him to rock greats Hendrix, Morrison & Joplin) after his offing himself dropped them (him) down my list of good bands throughout the decades.

Nirvana is good, Pearl Jam is great. Pearl Jam musically is just far superior to Nirvana, and is (in my opinion) a bit underrated as one of the best bands ever. McCready is an awesome soloist, and Ament is a great bassist.

Gotta be Nirvana...
Pearl Jam are awesome but they are not as great as Nirvana or The Smashing Pumpkins for that matter.

But none of those other bands would have broken out onto the national, nay, international scene without Nirvana.
So, despite the fact that mechanically speaking, yes, Alice in Chains is a huge winner over all of those other Seattle grunge bands, Nirvana must remain reigning supreme.
Also, Dave Grohl is a sick drummer.

Fixed.
I'm going with Nirvana, because I like more of their songs, but I must admit that Pearl Jam has a much better lead man in Eddie Vedder.

Yes, I would never compare them to the greats and I think they would have faded eventually anyways if he hadn't died.

Absolutely, positively, no doubt, not even close. Fucking PEARL JAM for the win.
Seen them live in concert 19 times.

Now I do like Nirvana, but if you like your rock dumbed down punk-style with no more than 4 chords, little to no lead guitar solos, and a far-inferior singer, by all means select the band that hasn't existed in 14 years over the only Seattle "grunge" era band still kicking ass going on 20 years.
Ok, stepping off my PJ soapbox....
