If you're going to quote fabricated statistics you need a fabricated source at the very least. Until you give us a link don't be offended that we regard your input as BS.

Come on now, don't you know that 98% of all statistics are made up on the spot?

The rule is that somebody else has to have made it up for it to be credibe 8-)

Thank you for acknowledging the credibility of my original post :D

Figures quoted from an April 2007 article in the New York Times, statistics were taken from the CDC which is a US government agency ( source website for verification at end of article ) That seems to me about as unbiased as one is likely to find so if the figures are fabricated then dont blame me  ( Incidently I have seen articles from pro gun organisations who question the CDC conclusions but not the overall numbers, for example they argue lower degrees of young person deaths and higher degrees of suicides )

http://www.nytimes.com/imagepages/2007/ ... APHIC.html

So the Center For Disease Control did this? Not arguing with you just find it very odd. Though I guess they could call it lead poisoning.

You know I just remembered one of morphs old comic posts. Something like a guy gets shot and say "uggh, lead poisoning. Invisible Man's one weakness."

Took a look at that site.

The vast majority of those are murders and suicides. If a guy is bent on killing someone else or himself, he's gonna do it. The fact that he couldn't legally buy a gun wouldn't stop him at all.

Hurray 2nd amendment! *joins Juan in gun-firing celebration.

Ok so your view is that these ' murders/suicides ' would still happen to the same extent , so why doesn't this happen in other developed countries with tighter gun controls ?

Look at the Swiss: the entire male population is required to undertake military training and to keep automatic rifles in their homes. And ammo is easily obtainble from any firing range, subsidized by the Swiss government. And yet, in spite of the prevailence of these dangerous firearms, the swiss rate of gun-related crime and accidents is rather low. Why?

Answer: responcibility. Most gun owners are responcible citizens, not just the Swiss but even in America such people do exist. But oh no, we simply cannot allow responcible citizens to escape punishment for the stupidity of criminals and imbeciles.

A few questions to the gun-ban lobby: how long does is take the police to respond to a call? How long does such a call take? Are such calls made in the moment or after the fact? How well covered are certain areas by police (are there hourly patrols)?

So your approach is "yeah sure let those guys die"

Please never get involved in australian politics. EVER.

Actually, if the right amount of law abiding citizens were carrying on a daily basis, the crime rate would go down.

What law abiding citizens? The kind of brainless hicks who say things like this:
millertime13 wrote:I heard the shots, brought the .45....who needs their ass blown to hell?

Sounds like just the kind of insecure young-man that you don't want carrying a gun, actually.

Anyway, for reasons which have already been pointed out at great length in many other threads, your argument is wank. Almost all of the available evidence points towards precisely the opposite conclusion, as does basic common sense and rationality.

Yes yes, here we go "But bad people will be too scared to shoot people if they think other people might have guns", sure... all criminals are rational cost-benefit analysis makers, that's why they're criminals in the first place remember? Of course they won't just be quicker to shoot bystanders who look like they're reaching for weapons, of course they won't just feel the need to bring more/bigger weapons to crime-scenes... "Escalation, no actually I've never heard of that" you'll cry; "What do you mean criminals will just shoot sooner if they think everybody on-scene is a potential threat to their lives"?

Heard it all before we're afraid, and it was retarded in all the other threads too. Put down your pearl-handled penis-enlargers my friends, no matter how warm they make you feel as you hold them close at night... you're frankly safer without them.

Uhm....because they don't actually have any of the factors that lead to crime? They also have very tight community-control, as they live in small communities.

They're basically like those small villages in the US, except that the whole country is like that.

Answer: responcibility.

No no no. The answer is destroying all really big cities and eradicating the poor people.

Shit if I know. I do know though that someone getting shot in this country is so rare that any instance of it is immediately on television or in the paper. Criminal bussiness is rarely dealt with by shooting eachother.

You're full of it.
Texas legalized the ability to carry conceled weapons, and crime rates did drop a small percentage(8?), and stay there. It's the first thing Gun lobbies point out.
Plus there are whole parts of our country where everyone does own a gun, and there is virtually no crime.

true, though if you think there was a gun ban, gun crimes would actually go down in the projects? i doubt it, it'd just disarm those who want to live a decent life
