I played one game and i won it. It was an assasiin game and i had traded in a set for 20 armies and did a lap. That was fun. But I won't play on Circus Maximus, cause i like continents.
Good strategy

Circus Maximus is actually really neat for Assassin games. I think the only true way to play CM is No Cards, Adjacent, Sequential though, but I'm crazy.

I think it's an amusing map. Unfortunately, in a No Cards game, there is a strong disincentive to doing anything, especially once you are down to 3 players.
Once you hit the final two players, though, the game becomes hilarious. The only valid strategy is to attack all out every turn, and hope to hold onto a slight lead in army production.

In a fit of not paying attention I got myself into a circ game with no cards...
Circus Maximus anyone?

First of all, I would like to say that this is by no means my favourite map but that does not mean I want this thread filled with abuse for it.
I have been forced to play my second game on this map as a result of a tourney and I was just wondering what exactly the best strategy is. I have decided to link all my territories up and fort as many armies as possible into one of them and just take a territory each turn until a better opportunity arises (almost like playing a build game). However, I know that others recommend spreading out over several territories to gain more armies each turn.
So, what are the thoughts of the knowledgeable
(well some anyway) CC community on this matter?

i try to buuild up one territory at the front whilst leaving 2's behind me for others to be attacked. it seems to discourage them from attacking u so attack others hence getting you extra armies, and when they do attack if your lucky you can take some of theirs with ur 2

First of all, I'll admit I'm rubbish at this map and have never won a game on it, but...
My thinking on this is that you should have two equalish forces on either end of the board thus allowing you to be effective in reaching all parts of the board (thus making it easyier to kill players) and making it difficult for someone to eliminate you in one go. The few times I've played it it was terminator though....
Frankly I avoid it like the plague, but I'm interested as well on other peoples ideas as I dread to come accross it in a challenge match.

I'd have to agree with you on this one.
I've only played 2 games on there, and I have a 50% win percentage.
In a 2p game, I played it like a build, but I left ones behind me. My opponent left 2's and 3's. I happened to win this game. So if it's a 2p, leaving behind 2's and 3's won't really discourage your opponent from attacking you.
But if there are more than 2p, then leaving behind 2 per territory sounds like a good idea.

This is one of my favourite maps so....
Firstly leave the back of you well protected and use full force infront never leave the protected
If you own the inner middle and outer at one position use that to your advantage they can only attack that they can't attack backwards sandwich them and kill them

I like to try and get a chunk of territories on two adjacent rings so that you have some protected territories that only need 1 army on each. An dlike others I focus my force on the front of my block (preferably on inner or outer ring so attackable from only one side) and push to get a complete ring round the track so that I can fortify from/to anywhere.
Well it worked once or twice! And I really like the map, too!

i would normally to the same - leave 2's and attack 1's where possible, drag the game into a war of attrition.

ive decided i love circus maximus for 1 vs 1's! its the only map where u can garuntee an evenish drop since there are no continent bonuses, on my last 3 classic 1 v 1's the other guy has got a continent on the drop and inevitably won

Anyone have advice on how to play this map? Seems I lose every time I play it.

I know alot of ppl will say this, so I'll say this for them:
DON'T PLAY on that DARN MAP!
But really, git a good team together and set up a public game of circus maximus. When the noobs sign on who don't know what they are getting into (noob: Oooh a Roman man, I've always wanted to play one of those), your team will dominate.
A strategy often used is called "line in the sand", where you build lots of forces creating a "line" of your armies that nobody can get around on 3 adjacent territories. from that line, you extend. If it is escalating, the strategy doesn't change much with the map, so bide your time and your armies, and creep up on the weaker players in hopes of striking at the right time.
Thats all i got, for now

hope i helped.

Don't play that map, unless you're into kinky stuff like escalating cards, then it might actually end some time.

I saw a decent strategy on that map once. The player built up to about 25 or 30 armies on 1 central region, then attacked the 3 regions in from of him. He then continued to slowly creep around the board while keeping that one region full of armies.
No one was strong enough to take that region and hold off the other players afterwards. Also, no one wanted to cash-in (flat rate) and blast around into his weakly defended regions because then he could simply use his mass of armies to attack and likely end up right behind you.

A strong bank of three blocking the way for others allows you to leave a stream of 1s in front of them. I was doing quite well in an open game until I stretched myself too much and got taken out doing that.

I played a game on that map in flat rate, ended in 6 rounds.

The only other game I've played on it was esc account sitting for someone in a tournament.

oly played it once but basically keep all of 1 section with loads of armies at the rear and in the front have 1 territ on center lane W/ loads of armies. remember you cant fortify backwards unless you get a whole ring around the track.

Here's an ongoing game: #641626
I have adoptied the "Build a huge wall strategy". I had 2 parts of it for most of the game, and got the third in Round 11. Since then I have consistently been building it up to the current 21 armies on each. No one has tried to attack it before now (Round 17). I am advancing on one player (Pink) and he is advancing on the other (Cyan). It will be interesting to see if my wall can hold out against the upcoming attacks.
