What's up with bizarre opposition to writing "Christianity?" You don't say, in your discussion of other religions, )am or *ish, so do you just object to writing the word "Christ?"

My g/f is a theologian, it's a habit i picked up. X stands for christ. As in Xmas. Like kclborat said, the internet is rife with acronyms. Writing xian is not a measure of my misguided heathen hatred of all things religious, I am just typing fast. Gimp.

What, by the way, is your malfunction?

I don't buy it. Like I say, if you wrote )lim or *ish, that might back up your point. But you don't[/quote]

Who gives a flying f*ck whether you buy it or not..? Sounded very reasonable to me.

Please tell me that you have seen "X-mas" or "Xmas" before?

He wasn't writing Xmas, he was writing "Xianity" and "Xtians." That's ridiculous, and indicative of a desire not to write the word, for whatever reason.

Exactly... Out of the same laziness that comes from Xmas... Why do you find that so hard to believe?

Then why didn't he have a similar abbreviation for Muslim or Jewish?

 in same the way that writing GFY is indicative of not desiring to write the words 'Go f*ck yourself' out every time some arsehole starts making inane assumptions based on a few lines of text. It is just a way to save time.

Because Christian is the only one that already had a shortened name for it, would be my guess. he didn't come up with a brand new fucking thing by saying X=Christ.... But neither I nor you have ever seen one for another religion.

For the record, I don't "disbelieve" in Mr. Christ. I think he was most likely a real and influential person back in the day.

What I do not believe is that he was the offspring of some supernatural non-human god(s) that created our planet as a personal experiment/ant-farm.

That's just crazy talk as gods/demons/fairy's and leprechauns are imaginary human inventions to explain away mysterious or unexplainable events.

I do agree with you that the religious world is chock-full of hypocrites.

Hi benmor 78,

I'm a Christian and I'm not with you on this. Our Lord isn't served by slander. I don't know Anarkist's Dream, but I've debated Heavycola and flashleg8. They are both smart and good guys. They just don't agree with us. Let's try to avoid being personal about it, okay?

Xian is just an abbreviation. Deal with it. Its a quicker way of writing a longer word. In lecture notes I'll write Xian, usually, Muslim and Jew are longer, but if I were to write Judaism I might well just write Jism. As long as everyone knows what it means (and in this case they do) thats fine! Nothing disparaging about the religion at all! If Aethism had a longer name, I dunno, possibly Atheisiticism we'd probably write Aism sometimes. Its not a personal attack!

I'm calling you on that one - there's no way you could get away with that!

A slang term for semen, a fluid secreted by the gonads of male animals;"

Whoa, chief. I'm not sure it's "our Lord." I'm not sure what I believe. I just get irritated with evangelical atheists.

Fair enough, as long as you're willing to admit there is hypocrisy within the ranks of skeptics and atheists.

It doesn't matter

After checking out backglass' comments in the Lent forum, it's not even worth any more effort over here. I guess we'll all find out who's right and who's wrong 1 second after we all draw our last breath.

That seems like a pretty lame excuse. Although, you seem to be opposed to proper capitalization, as well, so maybe you're just lazy.

I don't bother to capitalize when I feel the post has less worth or less intellectual parity. For example, check earlier posts in this thread. I capitalize fine. However, when people put up dumb posts about how writing "xians" is some deep psychological sign indicative about our fear and hatred of Christianity and Christ, then it is not worth my time to bother to capitalize fully. And btw, )ism for Muslim makes no sense, whereas xianity makes perfect sense. Hold back on your psychological examinations until you get your degree.

What?

LISTEN: The first letter of the greek word for christianity is X. OK? That's where it came from. It is just shorthand. Go to Wikipedia and type in 'xianity', see where it takes you. Please. And then never speak of this again.

Because people say Xmas because its not a religious holiday anymore, so they applied that to Xianity.
