La*k's new house to be a van der Rohe

On the classic Art map,
what was once North Africa,
is now home to the famous architect Ludwig Mies van der Rohe
Stick with me people, this gets good, i promise...van der Rohe moved from Germany to USA just before WWII broke out...
Living in the Chicago area he designed many buildings and helped pioneer the new "International Style"
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ludwig_Mies_van_der_RoheWell most of you may think you don't know this guy,
but surely you have seen the movie
Ferris Bueller's Day Off We all remember the Ferrari crash scene... out the glass wall and into the trees
Well that house, the house of Cameron Frye's father, was designed by our very own
van der Rohe...
well, technically it was designed by 2 of his students, but hey!

Tell me you remember that garage... tell me you remember that Ferrari...
Ohhhhhh.... a 1961 Ferrari 250 GT California..............................

....................................................................................
.......... oh sorry, i was day dreaming...............
Okay, back on topic... it's really the house i'm talking about...
You see, my friends...this house is for sale... read it for yourself...
http://www.preservationnation.org/magazine/2009/todays-news/ferris-bueller-house-for-sale.htmlI keep up with these things because i'm into the preserving of old and special homes...
well, not actually ME preserving them, but without preservation societies like the one I belong to many of these homes would be demolished to make room for McMansions and shopping centers... so we work together to ensure that this doesn't happen...
Well to the point, as i said this would get interesting.... a preservation society friend of mine in Chicago knows i love CC (they don't get it, but we all know what that feels like, right) anyway... i now have it on good authority that an offer was just presented this morning by a Realtor representing none other than our very own beloved
La*k!Seems a
partcular Canadian turtle
*can't say his name* fancies this home and has the cash to make it happen...
And with his computers facing those views, we are sure to see more timely updates... well, either that or the view will distract the heck out of him and everything will take longer... but i'm willing to take that chance providing he hosts a monthly saturday night game in that very garage...
I will go on record as saying i think this is great...
La*k deserves the fruits of success for what he has created and built here...
This is actually a somewhat small home... the garage is the best part, really... but there is a nice living room

and there are 4 bedrooms and 4 baths... all situated on a 3/4 acre wooded lot.
one final note... Please please please do not share this outside of this forum until the sale is final... these things are not supposed to become public until after they close escrow and everything is finalized...
EDIT: my apologies to all for giving a bit too much personal info about ****. And thanks to the mods for their understanding and allowing me to tweek things into compliance... You guys are great!

my friend in Chicago just sent me a link to the Realtor listing's virtual tour ....
http://tours5.vht.com/Viewer/PhotoGallery.aspx?ListingID=1193830&Style=IDXBut she also tells me this house is way bigger than i thought...
5300 sq ft... which includes the garage... nice...
For comparison...
my home is just under 2950 sq ft, but in California, we never count the garages in the sq footage...
and i have more garage than most...
the big garage is 21'x34' deep = 700+
the camaro garage is 15'x22 deep = 300+
the main garage & workshop is 32'x 24'deep = 750+
So if i included the garages, i'd have over 4700 sq ft...
And we are starting to add a 500 sqft guest room/pool house...
Which puts me at almost the same 5300! but on less than 1/2 an acre vs 3/4 for this house...
Very interesting...

doesnt this constitute an infraction of the c.c. rules about posting personal info?
now all the c.c. stalkers and lacks groupies will know where his new place is.
I wouldnt want every basement dwelling c.c. player knowing my address, whats next, some angry c.c. member posting his phone # for the world to see?

This doesn't actually have to do with CC, so I'm moving it to Off-topics.

the rules seem pretty clear...
Don't ever post personal information of other users. Anywhere. Ever. Even if they already posted it somewhere else. This includes posting personal information about a CC user on another site, you will be held accountable here.
Moral of the story: Posting personal information is taboo, so stay away from it!

Maybe the only people that should be banned for rules, even if those rules aren't actually stated, are people who generally post in Off-topics? Otherwise it's all okay!

I think this warrants an immediate ban, if MeDeFe or Neoteny had posted that is what would have happened.

Sweet, maybe I can stop by and play a few games with Donatello himself.

So this is what you want?

And just why would you wish bad things on other people?

no... no... Noooo... don't shoot me....

No I want consistency.
Why do some get banned for breaking the rules why others do not for breaking the exact same rule?
Personally I think that the rule is stupid, but as long as the rule is in place mods should not be able to pick and choose when to enforce the rule.
An entire clan got banned for breaking this rule. Is it fair to them that they were banned while others blatantly break the same rule and get away with it?

well... this thread is supposed to be about van der Rohe and that cool house,
but since we're a bit off topic anyway, I'll just add that it's really not the same thing...
it's like driving a car, if you and another person are racing down a residential street and a cop see's you, you'll get busted for sure, even though you never went over 50...
me? oh i was just cruising down the freeway at 70 and slowed down to 60 when i realized i was going a little too fast..
fortunately the cops didn't notice me, or they figured they would rather wait and bust the next crazy guy weaving in and out of the lanes...
It's how the real world works... things just aren't always what they seem...
oh... and the real world is never fair, you may as well get used to it...

So you broke the rules but you're sweet and post pictures so it's okay, and now you can be a bit smug about it?
Do you think your friends in high places are going to be happy to read that you're saying "life aint fair you'd better get used to it"? Why make yourself a target for people Robinette, you seem to be going out of your way to rile people and being coy and sweet doesn't make it any less annoying.
You clearly broke the rules and are still flouting them, and you seem desperate to show everyone this - is this a peacock display?

heheheee...
Well done xelabale...
you nailed this one right on the head...
i thought i'd need to do a few more posts to display the full fluff of my feathers, but you already called me out!

you know... i really should apologize though... i was unhappy this post was moved out of the GD, and since some of you were complaining about fairness, well... it just got me feeling ornery, not smug... just ornery
I really didn't mean for it to come across like that... to
put it in your face like that... ... well at least i wasn't trying to
stuff it down your throat..... hehee..... and by "your" i do not mean anybody personally... hopefully you all understand what i mean...
Oh, and remember... you really should trust the mods decisions... they typically know more of what's going on than most people that just stumble into a thread... you don't know the whole story, if PM's have been sent, etc... but seriously... i think they are pretty consistent overall... just like the California Highway Patrol, even though that doesn't mean i always like their decisions... now you'll need to excuse me... i have a new radar detector to install in my car
