I guess TV is kinda outdated, so Netflix et al is ok too, but a bunch of shows that I watch for mindless fun and special effects are ending due to season finales. Sci-fi and fantasy wise I've got iZombie, Dr Who, and American Gods, but I need some more mindless entertainment.
I'll accept some genuinely thought provoking stuff, but only if it has a Hollywood actor slumming it.
What are you folk watching?

Thought provoking stuff with a Hollywood actor? You should watch "Westworld". It's a sci-fi mystery series from netflix which features Anthony Hopkins. Absolutely amazing series.

I've heard good things. I was kinda put off as I haven't seen the original movie. I guess it's something than you can pick up without though, right?
Will give it a look.

Try the new season of twin peaks! Or Expanse for sci-fi... If you want mindless sci fi though you want want to go back and watch the entire series of stargate lol, those are definitely mindless

I'm kinda interested in the new Twin Peaks. I have bad memories of watching Lost though, so I might give it a few episodes before I dive in. A friend said I should watch Veronica Mars last time I mentioned watching Twin Peaks.
As an update, I've been watching American Gods (I liked the book), and Handmaiden's Tale (also, liked the book). Plus I found out that Altered Carbon is being made for Netflix, which fills me with a mix of hope and dread (I liked the book).

but i'm looking for a new series to watch. recommendations? just not sci fi.
As a recommendation from the UK side- Line of Duty is worth a watch. Each season is only about six episodes, and they're partly independent- it's a cop show about an internal affairs division, and each series follows a different case. It's big on plot twists, which kinda makes it addictive watching.

Plot Twists can pretty soon ruin even the best of tv shows. The only good tv show with plot twists is Scooby Doo. Too many shows have these twists from out of left field with no predictability or plausibility.

I'm generally of the same opinion, this show kinda changed my mind. Like I said though, it's a short season, tightly plotted. Over twenty episodes that can be annoying- over six it's a tightly made drama.

Twin Peaks doesn't ever really make sense so feel free to dive right in... But the new series is a continuation of the old one. Your best bet is to at least watch the movie- Fire, Walk with Me. It's made after the first two seasons ended and kinda helps explains one of the big mysteries of what happened in the TV series. If you have time it's worth watching the original 2 seasons, but that's a pretty heavy investment. The movie will at lest give you character introduction, and some insight into whats ahead in the new season? Nobody makes stuff like lynch, I think alot of peopleleave watching his stuff feeling mindfucked and let down... But I love it!
"The Last Kingdom" is pretty good. Pretty similar to the hitseries "Vikings", only this one picks the side of the Saxons rather than the that of the Danes.

Will bear it in mind, but I think I'll wait a few episodes.

I don't watch a lot of TV but they're probably my top three series'. There are others like Daredevil and House of Cards which started good but I couldn't finish. Personally, I'm waiting for Netflix's new series to start in December with Will Smith, my identical twin and hero.
