Best 1 v 1 map that has more strategy than luck?

Post by King Engineer »

I like playing 1 v 1, but I feel that most maps have more luck involved than strategy..............

In your experience, what maps are best for 1 v 1 in the sense that much more strategy is involved in them compared to luck ?

feudal war (pay it with escalating spoils foggy chained for least luck-based game) , ww2 poland (play it nospoil foggy adjacent for leas luck-based game), das schloss (play it foggy nospoil chained for least luck elements involved)

these are the best 1v1 maps in my oppinion.. no or little drop-difference, as small as possible advantage of going 1st..

Waterloo is a great map for 1vs1 as there are a variaty of ways to work the map for a win.

while i love waterloo for 1v1 8 out of 10 (if both players knows the map) starting equals win.. battle for iraq is also great from 1v1 but alos starting is a huge advantage (while we shouldnt kid ourselfs saying its not on most maps the maps i listed earlier either or both negates the drop-luck and minimizes the starting advantage,,)

feudal das schloss and ww2 poland are all good 24h freestyle maps aswell (no starting advantage) since only a couple of stacdks to keep track of, and for a slow old man like me its about as much freestyle as i can handle (and if i can handle it most can)

EDIT; knight also fun 1v1 as it gets kind of chess-y but starting more often than not equals win also here..

Take a look at these 2 discussions from the Q&A Forum. There are quite a few maps listed that are pretty good 1v1. Especially the conquer style maps.

there is no luck involved in any map its all randombullshit.org ;)
problem you got from 1v1 is most maps where you don't draw first turn you will find it hard to pull of a win. try some slightly bigger maps where you get chance to use some tactics rather than rely on the randombullshit.org or luck ;)
arms race was my favorite but neut bashing these days is suicide

I disagree with this.

I think you can easily win going second in games.

try "All your base are belong to us"
the drop doesn't really matter and most of all going first doesn't bring an advantage like many maps do.

basically if you know what you're doing you can easily win going second. in fact i think i might have won more often when going second :))

also play it only with fog.

It all comes down to who has the better dice though.

Conquer Rome is a good one. As is conquer man, hive, bigger non-conquest maps in general.

lol, that's valid for all maps. if you roll just 1s and i roll just 6s i frankly won't care what map we play, what settings we have or if you go first and even get a bonus from the start, i'll still kick your ass

even in hive where one would assume sheer size makes dice irrelevant, the truth is it only takes a couple of turns of good dice to get some bonuses and then the game is yours. it will just take a long time to finish it.

the only map where dice are realistically irrelevant is city mogul but unfortunately on that map it's very important who goes first hence it is preferable to play it freestyle.

consider these two which very few players take the time to master/fully comprehend:
cricket
hive

both have experts who have mastered them on 1v1 and gotten 3300 or higher on the scoreboard. for hive, look up [player]kaskavel[/player] and for cricket, look up [player]turmeric[/player].

There are some pretty good non-complex 1vs1 maps out there. Hit me up if you want to try some out, 1vs1 is the bulk of my play usually!

I like Conquer Rome - 24 starting territories on each side and only +3 a round regardless of how many you hold. I play with fog, chained, no spoils.

Hive, conquer rome, and arms race are what I find to be the most enjoyable 1v1s!

Hive it is. If you are good at it you can have the rank of General by playing casual sequential games with random people. I do not know any other map you can do something like this. Try it with no spoil and chained reinforcement

It is because no one has the mental energy to play that god forsaken map

That is because you are playing speed games with 1 min and people do not have the time to understand a complicated map they do not know. If you were playing casual the results wouldn't be the same. More majors and colonels using BOB will join your games and your results would not be the same
