Captain Can Only Find Non-officers To Play

Post by IvanDrake »

I am ranked as a Captain after 40 games, but it seems that every game I am interested in playing has only lower ranked players which means 1) people think I might be taking advantage of noobs, and 2) my risk/reward ratio is really off.

I've noticed that there are few Captain or higher ranked players competing in public games. Is there a secret club of higher ranked players that I don't know about? Should I be playing tourneys instead of public games? Am I missing something?

Please advise.

You might want to try joining a user group and more tournaments. User groups tend to make games, and you could join tournements for only high ranked players. You could also try organizing games in the callouts forum or live chat, or just making your own games and see who joins.

you can also try real hard to become a major, and then you can play in the elite games....

the real reason you dont see as many majors and colonels...is mostly because there is more drama with some lower ranked players....not all by a stretch...but the largest percentage of bad players, cheaters, abusive players players who launch neg feedbacks, etc..have lower ranks

also...you can goto the scoreboard...and pm a bunch of players either captains...or majors or whoever and settup games...

also...you can go to callouts and set up games...but they do sometimes take some time to fill

also...you can find a higher rank to play team games with you for a while, and you will probably be a major in no time...

Thanks for all the replies. I answered the Dragoon's challenge and will check into the other advice given. Thanks again.

Of course the other reason this dichotomy exists is the scoring system. :D

Yeah, I prefer a certain style of game, so yes, I tend to stick to what I like (World 2.0 map, no cards (I *hate* cards), unlimited fort). Does that limit the games I can play in? Sure. But I have found very few Captain-ranked players and above who play in any of the public games, not just the ones I like.

Why do you *hate* cards? Personally, I prefer them. Although I do play some no-cards games, I think flat rate is better because it gives you the odd boost to break a continent or whatever but it is still fair because everybody else also gets that boost at some stage. Then, there is escalating, which is possibly the most demanding game time, requiring a lot of skill in terms of timing.

I guess I shouldn't say I *hate* cards. I don't mind flat rate too much, but I prefer to be able to accurately predict how many armies my opponents are getting. I don't like it when I've done all the right strategizing and then I'm screwed up by random cards.

However, on the plus side of cards, they do encourage you to take at least one territory each turn.
