GodStorm [Abondoned]

Post by KEYOGI »

Edit: Abondoning development of this map. I will attempt to come up with another idea that doesn't revolve around Europe!

What would be a better name for the map? I obviously can't use GodStorm, so was thinking about something along the Mythology lines.

World of Mythology?

World of Gods?

Like what? Another europe map? I personally like the idea of this map. Im getting sick of maps like eastern front, 1914, europe apocalypse, europa v2.0. All so similar and not offering anything new or different.

I'm going to have to agree with Teya, and ask... like what?

Chinese Checkers is the only new map that seems to be unique. It seems all the other new maps are either variations of Europe or are using capital cities to try and be unique.

I'm keen to add some sort of twist to the gameplay, but the rules of map making are very restricting.

I don't know, I've been trying to think of a map not based too much on the planets geography. I think there are too many maps being based off our existing coninents and boundries, my Australia map included.

GodStorm adds Atlantis and uses different boundries, but I think it'd be nice if we had more maps based on books, games or movies that use completely different geography. However, copyright is an issue there.

Is there room for maps that are completely made up? I think there are, but I don't think they'd have the mass appeal required to get through the foundry.

Also, not that I mind as I haven't really put any work into this map. But why was this idea shot down so quickly Andy? Are there too many maps already in development? If so, maybe you need to put your foot down and only allow completely new ideas to go forward.

Hmm, I value any new idea for a map. The more maps there are, the better. I think you should pursue this idea or better still why not create a fantasy map of you own? This way you can make it the way you like and implement new ideas.

Haha!

This IS another Europe map! Sure atlantis is added, some countries are different...

But look at the geographical area that this covers compared to our current europe map. Almost identical!

I think there's enough appeal for this map, more so than Europe 1914 or any other Europe-based map in the making. Yes the map shares some geographical similarities with the existing Europe map, but they are far less obvious than any other Europe-based map being made.

As reverend_kyle pointed out, the playability would be significantly different. I'm still trying to think of a gameplay twist that would work, something new. If it comes down to it though and Andy says developing the map isn't a good idea, I wont pursue the idea.

Maybe if you read through the map ideas thread...you would know. I'm tired of all the Europe Rehashig :) Plus, there is always the Russia, people were working on that, but it took the back burner, and Oceania...no one has event attempted that yet, plus a number of others. :)

I think oceania would be kind of hard. Australia is so big compared to all the tiny little islands that you would have to scale it down lots. It would look funny.

Andy, if you are tired of all the europe maps why dont you say something to the people making them? there is a certain map maker out there at the moment doing 2 europe based maps... 1 of which looks way too similar to the current europe map.
Why single keyogi out and say there are better map ideas than this 1 when it clearly has support?

At least with this map you know it has decent playabilty (something I find hard to see in alot of maps in the making) And its already half made anyway. Just tweak a few things here and there (bonuses for 1) make it more visually appealing... that kind of thing.

As reverend_kyle pointed out, he has played on the map at landgrab and says its a great map. Why not have it at CC?

I do look through the map ideas thread occasionally. But I'm not going to read through 28 pages, maybe someone could update the list in the first post.

As for GodStorm, I'm happy to let the idea go. 8)

Andy, if I put up a poll for this map and it gets support, would you agree to having it made?

I'll think long and hard about incorporating some sort of gameplay twist to make the map truely unique.

Yes, start a poll to gauge people's interest. I think that's the best thing to do.

Although I like the name Atlantis, I prefer God Storm as the map doesn't focus only on Atlantis.

It may just be me reading your post wrong, but I mean Atlantis as in a map of Atlantis. Just want to make that clear.

It's not clear whether the place is real or myth, but there's enough information out there to base a map on. It would be completely unique from a geography point of view.

I'd prefer to make Atlantis for it's uniqueness, but when it comes down to it I'd prefer to make GodStorm because most of the hardwork is already done and we know it already has good playability. :D

I guess we'll await further voting in the poll and see what Andy has to say about it all. When it comes down to it, we don't need another Europe map.

It's funny you mention this, but did you know that there are studies that suggest that Malta is actually the tip of the lost continent Atlantis? These studies suggest that Malta is a huge mountain (or something) and the only part of Atlantis that is not submerged. I will look for them if I find them and give you a link.

Btw, I would first do God Storm and then Atlantis. From what I have heard other members say, God Storm is great to play so I definitely want to play it!
