well turkey does not have the death penalty which nations like belarus have so i think turkey is closer to joining the EU than a nation like Belarus,

In addition to meeting the economic requirements, Turkey must hand Cyprus over to it's own government and return the city and lands adjacent to Constantinople to Greece. Or at least that's how I'd like to have it play out.

It's not Constantinople any more, it's Istanbul! Town has a Greek minority (couple thousands) and 12 million Turkish majority. And don't get me started with Edirne...

well i better see the last days of famagusta as a ghost town....went there two years before 1974 (i was 10) and went to famagusta, and it's quite scary that i played by that beach i saw on a boat trip there recently, god it has changed...

And i thought there was a general image problem with letting turkey in from a number of member countries right now.

The rivalry between Greece (Byzantines back then) and turkey goes further than cyprus, the byzantine empire thought that they were on the front line for christianity and reguarly fought the turks and muslims over turkey, the turks caught turkey and the rivalry had been building up to a conclusion, which was ultimately cyprus, a rivalry which i think should have been left in the past.

Despite that land never belonging to greece before turkey invaded it. (several Hundred Years ago and even then it was from the Eastern Roman/Byzantine Empire)

Byzantium was always one of the cosmopolitan towns in the world. And today's Greece isn't a real successor of Byzantine empire. Ottoman empire was a conglomerate of different nations (for instance Greeks were almost always dragomans and ship commanders - even when the Greek War of Independence started).

So you are from USA.

How about returning your home to native Americans and going back to Europe or wherever are your family's roots.

I don't see why Turkey shouldn't be allowed in to the EU, provided they agree to play by the same rules as everybody else (which I'm sure they will do). It'd be good for Europe as a whole, I think.

Going on now, Danzig and Konigsberg (now called Kaliningrad) will be restored, simultanious to the return of Alsace-Lorraine, to Deutschland post haste.
