Hell

Before you vote, consider these options:
1). Like everyone thinks (including religious texts everywhere), they depict hell as a place full of suffering, fire, sorrow, pain, and fear. Do you think so too?
2). The Bible depicts Hell as eternal separation from God. Will it really be THAT bad? Maybe just a complete emptiness.
3). In Heaven, you are undoubtedly not allowed to sin. Whether you're a good person or not, sinning is fun (video games are sins, and every thing but basic life functions and god-related stuff is a sin). Religious texts depict Hell as bad, but barely ever talk about Heaven or going into detail about it. Maybe they're trying to hide something; lying about Hell as a place of suffering while it's actually paradise.
4). Do we really have a soul? Or is it just our brain directing our actions? Maybe we just die and we just stay in the ground. No ressurrection or anything.
5). Other- Do you think of Hell as something undescribable by these other options? If you do, post what you think.

Please note that I am a Christian. I'm not a devout, obsessed one, but I do believe in God, Heaven, Hell, and sin. I'm like Peter Griffin's father. I believe that there is absolutely no way to go to Heaven. You sin, you go to Hell.

WHAT?!? Video games are sins?!? Are you crazy?!? Ok first off videogames are not sins unless the video game has stuff like naked women having sex or something. Secondly, there are plenty of things to do that are fun without "sinning". Doing something against the law or against the "10 commandments" arnt the only things to do in life to keep you interested in living. What about amusment parks?? Is that sinning? I love amusment parks. Cedar Point rocks!!! Third thing is, The bible can't lie about things because the bible is "Gods letter to us", and if God lied then Everything about Christianity would be false. So the bible has to be true. Fourth thing... Have you ever read the bible?!? In the last books of the bible it goes into big detail about heavan and hell! According to the bible thoes last books were written by someone who God actually brought up to heaven! I don't know what you've been tought in church but you need to open up the bible and find this stuff out for yourself.

Well fist off, I am an Ignostic (spelling?), do belive in God, but also other Gods and belifes. I feel that to fallow the preachings of a book that was writen long ago, by someone. (No derect name). I might be wrong, but I havent yet had the time to read the "Good" book yet. Although i have read Dantees Infrno, not that is a good look in to hell. It is a good read to.

And lilwdlnddude, i agree the bast thing to do is to informe yourself, not live by what someone tells you.

My future working place...

No, actually, since I haven't been there and I don't feel like I have some concrete facts about it, I tend to not care. If there is one, it's probably gonna take out my worst fears and make them reality, so I won't be able to describe it...

I like your erroneous yet in that correction, Johnny...

There is no hell, and no heaven, either. Consciousness and Being are things whose true nature is far beyond the limits of human comprehension. When you die, you return to this "Soul Collective" that everything (living and otherwise) is, and has always been, a part of.

God did not create Man because he was bored and wanted a good show. Man created God because he was primitive and scared, and he needed a way to explain how everything came to be. Thus the first relilgion was born, and it was a good and necessary touchstone for Early Man. Without it, we would not know civilization or society. With the advent of these, religion became a means by which the State could control man, and terrify him into submission. Thus the idea of hell was born, and the thing which Man created so that he could walk the world unafraid was now the very thing he lived in fear of.

I think God created us because he wanted to know if something with free will (which God gave us, we don't have to do everything he says) would love him, believe in him, worship him, obey him, and just treat him like a normal friend. Then the people that have God as there friend are rewarded. Its like if some stranger walked into your house and started screwin everything up then you would obviously want to kick him out of your house. I mean you have rules in your own house too right? So I think God just wants to hang out with all the people that wont screw everyhting up maybe, the people that like him and are his friends.

There is no Heaven or Hell, only reincarnation.
My work/school would be considered HELL!!!

I think hell would be a lot like watching battletroop's avatar. It's fascinating to watch at first, but then you just feel like weeping and shooting the neighbour's cat with a bb gun. Am I the only one?

I like Dante's inferno concept. Hell is freezing cold because of its distance from the warmth of God. Heaven is a burning fire.

As for not being able to do all the sinful stuff, I think that would be a plus. Yes, I like playing Grand Theft Auto for 20 hours straight, but then when I get up to go to the bathroom and my joints are all creaky (I'm not that old) and I look in the mirror and the flesh is hanging off my face because there's been no reason for the blood to circulate in it...that feels like a little taste of hell right there in that moment, even if I was doing something I thought I wanted to do...you notice when people get older, they like to sit on porches more and watch the world go by...when I manage to get myself together some lemonade and ice and sit out on the balcony and stare at stuff, well, maybe that's the opposite feeling of what I was talking about before - and if that's what they make you do in Heaven - sit around and stare at God, as Dante seems to think - that might just be all right.

I also enjoy listening to the radio, when that Stuart MacLean is on. Now he's just a gem.

Just to clear stuff up:

Ignosticism is the view that the question of the existence of God is meaningless because it has no verifiable (or testable) consequences and should therefore be ignored.

Agnosticism is the philosophical view that the truth or falsity of certain claims—particularly theological claims regarding the existence of God or gods—is unknown, unknowable, or incoherent.

Neither relate to the view expressed. I'm not sure if there is a word for what you believe, aside from Polytheism, which is a belief in multiple dieties.

For the record I'm agnostic/atheist depending on the day. Mostly I hold that the existance of God is irrelevant. Do what's right as clear from your daily existance, ie. a sort of humanist/materialist (sometimes they're contradictory I know) conception of morality. If doing what I believe to be right, as best as I can percieve from the world around me, won't get me into heaven then God's immoral in my opinion.

What pisses me off is organised religion, that and hot firey pokers in the ass.

To me it just dosnt make sence to have no God. To have no God means there was no existance. The world could not have been made out of nothing unless something supernatural happened, such as a god forming the earth. I hate all these scientific theorys that try to explain the formation of anything without God, because they just don't make sence. I don't know. Having a God just makes sence to me...

But having a God explains nothing, you still have to ask where did God come from? And if God can simply "exist" for eternity then why can't "matter". I accept that from nothing comes nothing, but I don't see the link between that and the existance of God. If you look at what science is slowly revealing to us about how we got to where we are it's that all the complicated things in the world generally stem from something simpler, see evolution or the big bang. To have this giant complex God lurking behind it all just doesn't seem to make sense.

There is of course the other way you can take your statements, in that they imply that God is said matter/energy and not some mystical all knowing creator... which is far more plausible in my opinion.

Do you really believe things like the Big Bang theory and evolution?? If they say that humans evolved from primates, then why are there still monkeys jumping around?? Why didn't they evolve with the rest of the monkeys? And how does some matter coliding (sorry about the spelling) explain how life came to be about. But now here is something that I can't even explain. Can you explain the begining of time? I can not. Time was just always there because without time nothing could ever happen. And the thing that I can't explain is that God was always there. He is like time, He has no begining and no end. He just is. And thats what makes God, God. He is just so complex that we cannot explain his greatness. And thats what I would like in a God to. I wouldn't like God to be some ordinary guy who anyone could be. But yeah, I guess thats it for now. This is a very good debate. :)
