Tell us the best new crap to buy include the rediculas just so we can see what's great.
I'm interested in the least expensive thing possible but I wan't to hear about the wizzy stuff too.
My preference would be something that's generally good at everything playing CDs and CC or Poker at the same time would be nice with a focus on excellent sound quality.

We are thinking about an e-machine with a P4 $500 ish. I'm on a dell with a celeron right now. We're fairly poor currently probably shouldn't be replacing this unless it completely melts or somthing.

build ur own computer, the brand doesnt matter unless u r looking 4 customer service. If u want customer service go with dell, if u r looking 4 a good computer get HP or Gateway with a good virus protection. if ur just going 2 be going online u will be very happy with with 512 mb DDR RAM & a 2.8 ghz processor. I a 64 mb graohics card should be fine 4 u, & if u want good audio, make sure that u get Sound Blastaar & make sure ur comp comes with a Sub-woofer. depending on wut u store on ur comp & how many ppl use it a 60 gb or 120 gb hard drive would do it. If u dont store alot & no1 else really uses the computer get the 60 gb. If u get a good deal & not get a huge/flat screen this could cost a little over $500
the reason that voodoo omen is 14 grand is because it's gold plated. anyhow, the less cheap, better computer alternative is making one yourslef. Costs less, and they are usually better.
Buy a pci-e compliant mobo, and any kind of processor that fits the socket in your mobo. PReferably AMD's athlon FX-60 (it's a beast). Next would be too buy some RAM, nowadays 1 gigabite is usually very common, so I reccomend 512 megabites or more. Get a nice powersupply, 400watts AT LEAST. for graphics cards I reccomend either the nvidia 7900gt (any manufacturer is fine) of the Radeon x1800 crossfire. The nvidia one is a bit better, and says so in the price tag too. Next get a big ass hard drive, and geta cd drive too. The next thing is more optional, but if your mobo doesn't come with onboard sound and network card you will need to buy a sound card and network card. The next thing is my favorite part. Cases. You should also pick a cool computer case that you fnd to show off your new beast.
Thhose are justthe things you need, manufacturer and price are up to you.
