Both my opponent and I were like "freestyle..oh". I guess I just assumed sequential in 1v1 games.

I had assumed sequential as well, in reality though, in 1v1 if you're not on at the same time freestyle and sequential are the same since you can't both end and start the next turn. It only matters if you're both online at the same time.

well i had a great opponent, although he had the advantage in the freestyle game we agreed to do it sequential, great guy, gg.
So maybe you can, if you really hate freestyle like me, agree with eachother to play sequential.

Eh. My guy and I were on at the same time. I was first so I would click in and then he would click in right after, but he would wait til I dropped to do anything. He was also ranked a little higher than me. I still won though so I guess it doesn't matter.
