These are suspected Multis

Suspect users: joebiel, sparky24 and edwinfallwell

Game number: http://www.conquerclub.com/game.php?game=817597

Comments: If you take a look at there game history it will show that mostly the 3 of them are all playing with each other or against each other and that the majority of their game wins are one of them three. Also if you take a look at the game link I posted above they all 3 came on with a time interval of 2 mins exactly, right after I ended my first turn and thensimultaniosly took out 1 guy. now im not saying thats cheating and im not saying its illegal but I am in suspicion that it is multiple accounts being in use right there. I am not going to make a move until I see that those accounts are checked and I hear what the deal is. Thank you

hey dudes!

Nope, we aren't multis. Joe is my boyfriend, and we work and own a home together. We've discovered that if you make a good team somewhere, you'll probably make a good team other places as well. We also ride one hell of a tandem bicycle. (i think it's romantic)

We discovered in our first few games against each other that it's not as much fun for us as when we're working together. And plus we re-read the rules and realized it looked pretty bad. Now we're on a team together almost every time. Except for crossword where joe forgot to click triples and i didn't notice when i joined. After the worst rolls in history i was out of there; I almost posted, "put me out of my misery" but stopped so i wouldn't get bad feedback for being a poor sport. Oh, and Edwin lives in our town. He's been taking me to the hospital for my appointments a lot lately so he's been around when we start new games and wants to join. I think that's it.

Oh and the reason the IP switches around is because we run a home publishing company. The office has 4 computers, Joe has a laptop, i played on my mom's laptop when she was just visiting (more hospital trips) and Edwin has a laptop. We don't take turns for each other, but sometimes if we're upstairs we switch back and forth on one laptop. Which I'm sure looks weird. We often argue about strategy actually. Joe's more daring, while I'm more reserved and thoughtful of a player. Joe still wins more than I do. So maybe I should rethink my strategy.

If you want to check us out, look at the contact page for Microcosm Publishing http://www.microcosmpublishing.com. Pretty elaborate to have profiles for employees who don't exist, just so you can cheat at conquer club. No hard feelings though. I'd have probably thought the same thing. I figure if this is breaking the rules we can stop, sad as it will be. We'll see what the mods have to say. Not trying to cause trouble. Have a good day all!

This is bullshit.

Postby joebiel on Mon Sep 03, 2007 12:55 pm

Well, I guess if nothing else...if board admin wanted to call each of the three of us they would see that we are not the same person.

Simultaneous turns are not illegal and are the benefit of playing freestyle games. If a team occupies the same room at the same time and takes their turns on 3 computers (you would see that some of the response times are so fast they there is no possible way that we couldn't be 3 people on 3 computers talking in the same room).

It seems like this person is mostly upset that we take key advantage of the benefits of the freestyle rules and coordinate our team well. Not illegal, last time I checked. Maybe he's jealous that he doesn't play conquer club with his girlfriend?

Yeah, you should call us up! That would be awesome! We'll work on a song devoted to our love for Conquer Club. Then we can sing it for you over the phone. I'll make sure to throw in some harmonies.

Just checking in and reporting in that we aren't the same person. That's all. We used to play RISK IRL (you might have heard of it, it looks like it is based off of conquer club), but it took up too much time, and the Wade (cat) would try and jump on the board.

hehe, yeah my cat's kind of a jerk. And plus, with the board game, he'll eat the pieces. If I come home and he's got the computer in his mouth, then we'll have a real problem... :)

God, this guy didn't even cite any specific rules that we are breaking. It's easy enough to verify that we are not the same person and his only other claim is that we take turns simultaneously in triples freestyle games...which isn't against the rules.

*sigh* he left us negative feedback. of course. don't people have lives outside of trashing other people on the internet? I left him one too...but i tried to be nice at the end. he wasn't a bad player except for the accusing us of cheating thing. so i tried to throw that in. seriously though people. i don't care about points. i don't need points, or rank, or percentage. i just want to play games with my boyfriend/friends. so maybe if people think it would be fair you could start me over at zero every month or something? just trying to think of something that would keep people from being so angry at us...

This game is an excellent example - 797317

Sparky, Edwin, & I all played in it. We did not protect each other and Sparky was taken out early on. We even squabbled over territories.

...then I made a pact with the other player AGAINST edwin and *I* killed him off. How about that?

If providing a lot of information makes someone guilty, how does someone show innocence? By being quiet?

I think it is very easy to show that we are 3 different people, Banderaguy. Are you not going to acknowledge that? Just make bets about how this thing that has been causing us so much joy is going to possibly be taken away.

On old "elite" BBS's in the 80s and early 90s, some SYSOPs would do "voice verification" to ensure that it wasn't just a user trying to get another account. This meant that they called up the person (or vice versa) and talked to them.

Of course we joined within one week - I told both of them about it and they were watching me play every day!

This whole experience is very souring. We win a game in 4 turns so we are accused of being multis. We defend ourselves and that causes people to further insist we are multis.

I would be fine with not playing against each other, as that has mostly led to arguments anyway....but I really don't see what the issue is or what rule we could possibly be breaking in team games by playing together. Everyone keeps shouting "multi" which is quite easy to prove untrue - Call up each person and ask them a few questions about their account and their games.

what's the point of being mean to us? betting against us? why have such a negative view of the people who play on here? we're not out to get you. we're just here to have a good time. why be mean?

also why would i have a fake myspace for years in order to cheat at conquer club? http://www.myspace.com/xtremesparkyaction

and why would we have a fake work myspace
http://www.myspace.com/microcosmpublishing

with 1700 friends?

check out the pics there including the one that says...gasp...sparky and joe on tour! not our most flattering photo, but still...

my profile has pictures of both of us through the seasons! i don't know what else you people want from us.

also, it sucks to have your work constantly attributed to your boyfriend...even at online games.

As far as speaking up making us guilty...have you looked at what we do? We obviously believe in speaking our minds. We run a politically themed distro! i'm not just going to sit back and watch crappy cable shows and eat doritos while my reputation gets trashed. if we don't defend ourselves who will?

I have seen the threads where the accused don't post back. It's always one big snowball effect where the townspeople wave their torches and go, "Yeah, yeah, and another thing! Get them!" It's the bandwagon effect. I'd rather speak up so that people see there are two sides to this and that we're not some ashamed multi in hiding.

And I think although the internet makes it easier to be cruel, I find that even on the internet it's harder to be cruel to someone with a personality, a face, opinions, and feelings. Instead of just a screen name.

Finally, i wrote to the mods and asked that the feedback that was left for me by the originator of this post be deleted as it was unfounded rumor, and asked also that in that instance, I would like the negative feedback i left for them to also be deleted. no hard feelings. this was done. until the mods reach a decision, i think that's all there is to be said.

Another way to verify that we are 3 different people is to look at the IP addresses. We have played in totally different places at the same time. You couldn''t run that fast in between different computers. Turns taken within seconds of each other on two different ISP's even. It's just not possible that one person is puppetering these 3 accounts.

They are good honest folk

Postby jwithington on Tue Sep 04, 2007 4:12 pm

I am currently playing a game with Joe and Sparky, because they are friends, are dear to me, and have taught me how much fun it can be to play in a well-coordinated team. There are probably plenty of folks who live in different states and yet play teams together all the time; these two happen to live in the same house. playing Risk at Conquer Club has made it so that I've been calling them to plan strategy, but have also gotten to catch up on their lives (between "dude! fortify me!" exclamations).

I even met Joe when we were editing a Risk documentary. This guy is a student and historian of the game. Accusing him and sparky of cheating is downright ridiculous.

They're just good!

From Help, #28:

Can I join a Doubles or Triples game without having other team players in mind?

Sure, you can. But it is advised to go into any team game with players you know.
