Build games and what to do

Postby Sgt. Drake on Thu Aug 09, 2007 6:37 pm

My question is what do you do when a 5 or 6 player game reaches that point where it is just a build game. This is the case in the following four games. Each game was started at the same time with the same players, and we've all kind of taken the same approach in them. I'm lucky in that I have good position in all four of them including have a decent margin of men in two of them. I just don't know where to take them or how to end them.

Generally, if I've got a troop advantage, I find 1 border with weaker player, and slowly chip away. Maybe only a few rolls per turn. That way, they are slowly drained of their resources. Eventually, someone can't resist, and once there is blood in the water . . .

If I'm down, and not going to be able to build as fast as everyone else, I usually lose patience.

This is basically a patience contest in other words? Whoa!

Yes, which is why I usually lose.

I suicide into the first player that ticks me off.

Edit: After Rocketry's post, if I'm in a good place I try to get the other players talking and manipulate them. But usually I just suicide into the first player that ticks me off because I hate build up games.

if you are in position to become the strongest by building - then build.

If you are in a weak position or will be overtaken eventually by a builder - then attack asap.

If you're in a weak position, DO NOT ATTACK. At least not on your own.

Sit tight and build and let the big guys fight it out. I've sen people getting half the armies/turn of the other players get ahead because they seemed so unthreatening.

in the first game you have a shit load of armies, but are still vulnerable on r2 i think. you have 75 on that but if i was aqua i would gently attack you from both sides(blue and green).

in the 2nd game, i think your in a better position but be aware of aqua, as they are quite big.

the 3rd game i would move your armies from east africa to the middle east and try to take out green over the next few rounds. move a few from north africa to middle east aswell.

the 4th, well this is a hard one. i don`t mind chinese checkers, i`ve been in a game like that but there were only 3 of us left and i was the weakest. i just kept on pecking there heads and they attacked each other and i cleaned up.

If you are the strongest, attack the second strongest a little each turn. The attacker destroys more in 3v2 fights than he loses so you will extend your lead.

If you are in second but fairly well ahead of third, attack the strongest a little each turn.

If you are weak, sit it out and hope some stronger players turn on you. And try not to get too bored.

Umm... I hate to burst your bubble, but my luck seems to be a bit against me. Even 3vs 1 rolls give me either those triple 1s or the opponent a 6. So basically luck is in your favor with 3 dice, but the Defender winning tied rolls give the foe an advantage.
1 roll guarantees a die will lose on attacker, but one roll guarantees a die will win on defense(1 for offense and 6 for defense will guarantee a loss and win respectively for offense and defense respectively).

Stuuupid!

If you have >45% of the armies on the board you can try something like that, as long as you make sure you hit the other two equally hard so you won't end up being the underdog if things go wrong.

What to do

Postby Prankcall on Sun Aug 19, 2007 4:02 am

I agree its a battle of who intrudes or breaks some1's bonus...or gets bored its just patience mode...what i would do is get my card..and start slowly deploying to my inner lands just to make them wary of attacking u they'll not get far if they do...
