Like I agree with every one that is angry, I hate it myself.
I personally could "forgive" the problems, if there was communications from up above, but there really is close to nothing, and thats just super frustrating.
We had that update a month ago, and we still live with tons of bugs, but the lag is worse, yesterday I used 50min on a turn I would usually take in 2-3 min.....
This!!! I don’t know what is worth, the lag, connection issue that remove the fun of playing OR the lack of communication from the team…we all know you are aware therefore it makes non sense for not making a post and answer us and give some sort of update.
100% agree with these statements. After 18 years here, looking like it's time to retire as this is taking all the fun out of the site.
I seem to be getting a bit of lag at the moment - not as severe as before, but worse than it was 3 or 4 hours ago.
That said, it's slowed down further after a couple more hours.
As a former data person (and born problem-solver), I'm wondering whether it's the host server, the connections, the code, or perhaps the database behind it. Does it ever get cleaned up? Have old abandoned accounts been removed if they've been inactive for a period of time? How long are old games stored? Judging by the game number, more than 24 million have been played, do they all need to be there? How about maps that haven't been used by anyone for a while? I don't know what they cutoff points should be - perhaps not the same for users, games and maps, but maybe 5 years as a starting point for each? Does anyone look at games that far back - and if anyone does, are they prepared to sacrifice them for the potential improvement in speed?
Is there anything that players are doing that slows things down? No idea what, just trying to think outside the box - not finishing turns comes to mind, but I doubt that's the issue.
Any other thoughts from the technically minded?
Some information on the recent fix and what it was trying to do might be helpful. I know it's up to the mods to sort out, but you never know, one of us might be able to assist or at least stimulate an idea if we knew what was happening.
