In his first 4 years of office the USA didn't start any conflicts in the middle east. Now he's trying to broker peace between Russia and Ukraine and seemingly with some level of success.

Obama got one just for ticking a box so they can't be that difficult to come by.

I suppose if Trump personally took ownership of Gaza and had his private security murder all the Palestinians living there... as a private citizen instead of as President... surely that would almost guarantee he'd be in the running for the prize having ended an almost century old conflict.

This exchange does not help the CASE for Trump's Nobel Peace Prize. And I think that outside the world of international strongmen (many who are DICTATORS), most folks outside the USA do not like Trump's style or words or America First attitude, actions, and policies. I doubt that Trump will EVER receive Nobel Peace Prize, unless Norway turns politically very much to the right.

Obama basically received the Nobel Peace Prize for essentially a change of "attitude" by the US and by the Office of the President of the United States. In my view, this is the THINNEST & WEAKEST Resume for this Award to any of the 4 US Presidents who received this award. Obama gave a speech or two. The other did lots of diplomacy and negotiations and EFFORT to earn theirs. I am happy that Obama got it. However, I really feel that he did not YET deserve it since he had been President for so short a time (less than ONE YEAR), and the reasons cited above. Obama accomplished LITTLE to that point in 2009.

The Norwegian Nobel Committee announced the award on October 9, 2009, citing Obama's promotion of nuclear nonproliferation and a "new climate" in international relations fostered by Obama, especially in reaching out to the Muslim world.

In opinion polling in Norway for this year's elections, the right-wing populist Progress Party is in second place with 22% support and the center-right Conservative Party is in third place with 19% support. Currently, in the Norwegian parliament, the Labour Party is only holding government with 48 of the 169 seats.

Ukraine never had the ability to actually arm or fire the nuclear weapons that happened to be located on its territory. They were just expensive rocks. Soviet weapons had some sort-of equivalent to the U.S.' Permissive Action Links installed on them. If they'd tried to arm a weapon, the best case scenario is they would have failed. The worst case scenario is the weapon would have fizzled and killed everyone standing within two miles.

So the Ukes got something for nothing and have now discovered there ain't no such thing as a free lunch. That's a good lesson for them and will serve whatever's left of that country better in the long run than any security guarantee could have done.
