Can you clarify / fix this? Is it supposed to be three times for the random map too?

If I am reading this correctly, a trip to the finals would require at least 22 different maps? 66 total map choices and a max of 3 per map.

Thats correct, part of the contest is map management balance.
Use your best ones to get to the finals, then you need to dig deeper in the vault for the finals themselves.
Save them for later, and potentially you might not get there.

Actually it's 24 since that's how many you need for the final.
