Former President Jimmy Carter and former first lady Rosalynn Carter will not attend President-elect Joe Biden’s inauguration. It marks the first time the couple, 96 and 93, will have missed the ceremonies since Carter was sworn in as the 39th president in 1977.

A spokeswoman at The Carter Center in Atlanta said the Carters have sent Biden and Vice President-elect Kamala Harris their “best wishes” and “look forward to a successful administration.”

It has nothing to do with the pandemic and the fact they are 96 and 93.

UPDATE: The Congress only got three states into the certification of the electoral votes. When they got to Arizona, 60 objections were raised to the authenticity of Arizona's votes. President Pence dissolved the joint session as unable to continue until the objection is resolved --- for the first time since 1878. The two chambers will now separate and investigate the authenticity of the votes alleged to be from Arizona. This will continue for another 47 states.

CSPAN is reporting an off-mic comment reporting multiple armed operators are now inside the Capitol.

Journalists have told that they will be taken into the Senate and House chambers with the members of Congress; staff are barring the doors to the chambers as a last line of defense.

On CSPAN Niel Lesnewski reports everyone in the presidential line of succession (Speaker Pelosi, Vice-President Pence, and President Grassley) have fled by helicopter to some offsite location, speculated to be the Mount Weather fortress in Bluemont, Virginia.

Meanwhile, peaceful protesters are attempting to enter the House chamber. Those who were sheltered in the chamber are now sealed inside with no further way out. They should now commit to negotiate a peaceful settlement to the election.
