DrT, I would start a bot game on speed setting and then drop it or play it out...that should help the "inactive" message.

Yeah, if a player isn't on the scoreboard (hasn't played a game in 30 days) he can't be invited to games. That's just a site precaution to prevent waiting games from being full of departed players. He can still join games manually. If you were to make them private and email him the password, he could manually join them and you could still have your series. (Assuming he's in contact and not gone permanently.)
