Rank is nice as it is something to strive for and adds another element to the game. Do I worry about it? Not so much.... (though I've yet to be demoted... except for when the new ranks were added that is. ) I'm honestly more interested in my win/loss percentage. I think that's a nice indicator of ability (with a little luck or lack thereof mixed in with it.) and find myself keeping more of an eye on that rather than my "stripes".

As far as whether or not ranks matter to me as far as opponents go - I tend to start my games so I take on all-comers (though the higher ranked folks usually play a more interesting game I must say).

All in all rank is a good thing but it does'nt keep me up at night. :)

curently im a noob cause i just joined the site. i have not played risk very much in the past so im not very good at it. my worst most hated fear is that when my strategy is based around taking some specific country, the dice goes bad on me and i crap out. so im not seeing a lot of points increasin in the future so i chose 3-4. i just hope i win some games atleast.

In that case be prepared to fall a bit at the start. But, do not be discouraged (unless you get to cook that is!), as most players do eventually find their feet

I voted 5-6 I cared enough that I felt I was working toward a goal and having obtained it for a week the new system came out and I had to start over at a lower rank which I wasnt happy about.

But I care more about playing a good game or trying a new map and doing well on it. I like to vary what map what variation and who I play to keep it interesting.

rank is for rookies!

you'll be stuck playing doubles and triples against dead beats and loving it if to care to much.

relax and just play, there ONLY POINTS!

not a big fan of rank, but I would say 9-10 if it were a poll about winning!

Same here, I create games, people join, that's fine. I'll play cooks. Though I still care about my rank, and score, and want it to be higher. :D

I voted 5-6. Ranks are nice and I'm happy we have them but it doesn't influence the games I play.

7-8

Ranks to me are not really important in themselves. My ultimate goal is to play really well and to gain lots of skill. Each rank I advance is a step toward that goal, so ranks are important to me in that way. However, I still play the games I like. I try to stay away from 2 player and team games despite the fact they'd probably raise my score, but I do play them every so often.

I care

Postby narominded on Fri Jun 08, 2007 1:06 am

I care about my rank only because I enjoy playing with the higher ranked people. They know how to play skillfully rather than just on luck. Most of the lower leveled players I play dont know what they are doing and will just do the randomest crap sometimes. Gotta stay above 2000 to play with the big boys and even then someone turned me down for a password game saying I needed to be at 2500 blah...
Im always up for playing with 1600's and above but once they're below 1300 I prefer not to join anymore. Oh, and I ignore any cooks with below 600 points, that's just pathetic someone could get that low.
All fun in games until somebody gets hurt haha.

If I cared I would not have lost 500 points playing 1 vs 1 this week. But thats not the response you were looking for so I will answer by saying my score is all I care about.

without adding them up I will guess

110 wins at 8 points a piece = 880 points
24 loses at 50 points a piece= 1,200 points

net gain= -320

Well, net gain= -320 is a negligible price to pay for instant gratification. :)

really? then you're a bad player

PS: adding the 12 point you took from me in a triples game that makes -308. :P

I do and dont care about Rank.....Im quite a skilled player with one major flaw, im very impatient and aggressive. Not 2 good combinations.

So i would say 5

Always want to win at anything I do,but even more important is to keep a player from benefiting from overaggressive play--if I'm in an even 3 way game and one of the others uses 40 armies to take out 50 of mine,I'm gonna make damn sure that guy doesn't win, even if I'd have a better chance to win by doing something else...

If I had a quarter of the reputation as JR I wouldnt care half as much as I do about my rank.
BTW: People who do crap like kamikaze someone because they took a chance that may or may not have succeeded are fricken annoying, get over yourself. If someone has the balls AND the possibility (possibility is key, stupid azzes deserve every kamikaze they get) of taking control of a game by sending 40 units against someones 50 they deserve a respectable fight to continue and not that bs Kamikaze stuff some noobs do. (I do hope your kamikazes are justified) If it werent for the occasional gutsy move some games would certainly continue far longer than necessary. And if the player plans it right and fails on a gutsy move, usually the two, now weaker players can keep the third at bay while they regroup, but you have to just go for it sometimes...Its 'conquer club' not 'crap around for 40 rounds until someone tries something and then I screw them over for trying club'

It is really what drives me to keep playing. Sure CC is fun but it is not as fun as sitting around a table having banter with your friends playing a related un-named board game.
