For what it's worth, I'm of the opinion that pretty much every single human being on the planet is a dumb ass. The one exception I've found throughout human history is possibly Diogenes. That's because Diogenes didn't give a shit if he was a dumb ass. He was so brilliant that he invented trolling 2,400 years before the internet was invented. He went around showing how much of dumbasses some of the most famous intellectuals of history, like Plato and Alexander the Great.
Think about it, Diogenes actually trolled Alexander the Great and lived to tell the tale. Diogenes put Plato in his place and embarrassed the hell out of him by demonstrating just how much of a dumbass Plato was. And Plato was smarter than any person who graces this fora.
IMO.

Socrates did it better. Plus Alexander the Great was an intellectual? Military genius, perhaps...

What gets me is the UTTER OUTRAGE we would have seen from some of these individuals (as well as most of us on the left) if Obama had said some of the things that Trump has said. The hypocricy of these individuals is incredible.

I never said Trump wasn't bad. I do think he's bad. I don't like social conservatives and I think he's economically more liberal than Hillary Clinton. What I'm trying to illustrate is a very specific point, which Woodruff has also illustrated - people need to get out of thinking about politics in an "us" vs. "them" mentality and more on an issue by issue or case by case basis.

And for what it's worth, if you listed the most intelligent people on CC, the top 10 would include me, Saxi, and patches.

Lol, listing yourself as one of the top 3 smartest of CC is really cute.

Anyways, back on the subject: no... it's not about us vs them... that is just what trump supporters are doing. Even some republicans can't stand that full of himself impulsive intolerant know it all nepotist silver spoon bully irresponsible unprepared lying piece of head rug.

That is completely subjective. Any sort of measure you'd like to choose as your perceived intelligence metric depends greatly on motivation. Motivation to be perceived or not as intelligent, motivation to be educated about a certain topic, etc. It's also dependent on the ability to use written language, which although in general is a good metric of intelligence, it's not always the case. Take for instance the case of Donald Trump, he doesn't show a great intellect with the way he uses language, but he's really smart [1]

Even if you chose specific intelligent metrics, they don't really say much. Say you choose college degree, we could say my degree is more challenging that yours, but you simply can be better at yours than I'm at mine, or hypothetically better at my degree if you had chosen it. You can chose IQ tests, but those doesn't really represent a full picture of intelligence.

What it's completely objective though, it's the size of a person's penis.

[1] "You know, I'm, like, a smart person" - Donald Trump.

Also Woodruff - likely top 10.

Yes, yes, all the personal character traits of Trump are problematic and wonderful to make fun of (full of himself, impulsive, intolerant, nepotistic, bully, irresponsible, lying).

The cute... I mean intelligent... thing is to understand that it's not what he looks like or how he conducts his personal life that are important... it's what he does, and to focus on the important parts of what he does. Once one gets to that level, the next step is to think about whether this is consistent or inconsistent with one's own personal values. Is denying media access or developing a close relationship with Russia problematic for someone? Was it problematic for someone under the last administration or the one before that? Becoming more polarized because of a particular political party will lead to the continuation of unintelligent and unproductive conversations. That seems problematic to solving problems. Focus on the issues, not on the person or the party and be consistent and you'll find yourself liberated from a stupid and unproductive mindset.

TGD, here, the thing is that we don't see things through the same spectrum. I basically don't give a shit about your national policies, your local tax and employment issues and all the rest. Of course, I'd rather know that things are running well for you guys, but my major concerns are about your foreign policies.
Russia under Poutine is behaving as a conquering empire, and as an ex head of the FSB, this guy pulls all the dirtiest strings to get rid of any oposition and to acumulate power. Most Russians are now living under a nationalist bubble very dangerous for world peace, and they are spreading their tentacles everywhere, getting the leaders they think would suit them best in western countries manipulating democratic elections throught their FSB strategies.
Trump is a very thick person (of course he is smart for certain things, but he is way less intelligent that he thinks, as he underestimates everything and everybody). You cannot manage the USA watching fox news and using that guy of bleitbart or whatever that media is called for council.
You cannot be in office and wake up every morning wondering what stupid thing you could post on twitter to troll and get retweeted. This guy isn t running a TV show anymore, but looks like that s what s he s doing... fishing for publicity by saying/doing something stupid each day, probably on purpose.
You cannot have a diplomacy like that... pissing off all your allies one after the other, and acting like a spoiled 5 yo.
This guy is ruining america's image, all the good image that Obama managed to regain.
Like it or not, you must also see the USA as a brand, and this guy is destroying its value worldwide. If your internal affairs is your only concern, well fine, sit and wait for this dumbass s actions.

You mean, by annexing Crimea (home to a major Russian naval base) after the US/EU agitated for the overthrow of the Ukrainian president just because he was friendly with Russia? And protecting the Syrian government from an armed uprising that was only able to gain momentum because the US, UK and France bankrolled it?

What has Russia actually done abroad other than protect its interests in response to blatant Western aggression? I remember a news story about a bunch of white guys bombing the Libyan government to pieces because they wanted it overthrown. Was that Russia?

getting the leaders they think would suit them best in western countries manipulating democratic elections throught their FSB strategies

Like the British spy who put together and then leaked a bogus document claiming the Russians were blackmailing Trump in order to discredit him? Or whoever it was that acquired the pussy grabbing video, waited, and then released at exactly the right moment to distract people from the leaking of Clinton's speech transcripts?

Oh yeah but those people were trying to manipulate opinion against Trump, so that was okay.

Betsy poo, you absinthe injecting fruit loop. Seducer of grannies with unshaven armpits and ashtray breath. Image that Obomber the drone assassin managed to regain? Obomber just proved that a "black" man when given power is just as evil, venal, cynical, and ugly as any white man. Those of us born in Africa will tell you that Obomber is not an unusual case. Can all rattle off at least 10 african despots with out bothering to include Mugabe, Zuma or "good" jonathon.

I don't give a fucking f*ck about foreign policy. Russia can do whatever the f*ck it wants to do. Europe can take care of itself. Let's reduce all 180+ bases the US military has around the world. Let's not have the US be the world police and a military budget be more than the next X countries' military budgets combined.

Luckily for you, President Trump is going to expand the size (and cost) of the military to project US power to an even greater extent than previous presidents (including the Great Satan George W Bush). Perhaps he won't use that as a stick against Russia but I bet he will. Get ready for big government conservativism (which you would have gotten under President Clinton too I think) - increase the size of the military, get even more up in everyone's bidness. Saxi will have more details I'm sure, but I think he would say that the sucking on the tit of the US is done. I mean, you can talk about "alienating allies" and some other bullshit but let's be real, foreign affairs are more complex than "Hey President Trump likes Vladimir Putin, we're all doomed" especially in the context of a democracy.

Tribalism is a very real thing. So is divide and conquer. Many people simply want to fit in and be on a side/team. They may feel strongly about a certain issue, but then they adopt the entire platform of a particular party and pretend talking points followed by insult then dismissal passes for intelligent discussion. Its best to be like me...objective, independent, and honest on the issues; when a democrat is in power many people attack me as a knuckle dragging flat earthing gun toting bible thumping climate denying red faced scotch breathe Neanderthal that wants sick people to die in the streets. And when a Republican is in power, many people attack me as an unattractive pansy ass antimilitary Greenpeace tree hugging baby butchering gun grabbing anti liberty druggie that spends my days vaping organic cloves and huffing patchouli oil that constantly makes decisions based solely on racial stereotypes. The fact that I remain consistent and principled clearly shows the problem is the social Nazi media repeaters who are basically wind up dolls that the media can aggrevate, animate, and then motivate to vote, not based on what people like or support but based on fear tactics and focus on what people hate. Didn't take long for every non issue to be looped on TV as the end of the world.

Per 'if Obama said it!' I still hold for the most part that the right disagrees with the left, and the left wants to torture and murder the right. And if Obama had said similar things, any criticism would have been blown off because anyone who would have been outraged was clearly a racist. My favorite was Obama repeating weekly that Islam is a religion of peace and we can't judge an entire religion by what some Muslims do today. Then he would turn right around and tell Christians to shut their mouths because the entire religion of Christianity can be judged based on what some Christians did 500+ years ago.

My favorite was Obama repeating weekly that Islam is a religion of peace and we can't judge an entire religion by what some Muslims do today. Then he would turn around and tell Christians to shut their mouths because the entire religion of Christianity can be judged based on what some Christians did 500+ years ago.

Lol, the left wants to torture and murder the right? :o

Don't know what planet you've been on, but wherever I've been it's always conservatives saying things like "all towelheads need to be shot on sight" whereas the liberals are saying, "it's not so hard to get along if you only try."

And, sorry to burst your bubble, bit it really isn't so hard to get along if you try. Yes, we all have an instinctive Us vs. Them instinct, but it really isn't so hard to make a conscious choice to push that out of your mind and choose to get along.

I'm sure when you see a hot chick you want to just lean her over a fence and slam it to her, but you manage to do the right thing and not become a rapist, right? And the more often you control your impulses, the easier it becomes, and who knows? Maybe at some point you learn to enjoy hanging out with pretty girls and thought of rape doesn't even cross your mind any more.

It's the same with not being a racist. Sure, when you see someone who looks radically different the animal part of your mind says "foreign tribe -- KILL!" but the more often you tell that animal part of your mind to STFU the easier it gets. And maybe, just maybe, you'll learn to enjoy the company of some people who are different, and maybe you'll actually sit down and have some fascinating conversations about life in a different culture.

Controlling your baser instincts isn't really hard, but it does take some practise. If you never start, you'll never get very good at it.

I'm so sick of listening to conservatives sitting in judgement on everyone else, and every second sentence out of your mouth is that someone "oughta be shot on sight." This guy oughta be shot on sight because he's a different religion, and that guy oughta be shot on sight because he's a different race, and that guy over there oughta be shot on sight because he smokes something different than you, and this guy here oughta be shot on sight just because he's unemployed.

And then you have the nerve to say that the left wants to torture and murder? Phaw. No leftist I've ever known personally has ever advocated the extermination of anyone. (Which isn't to say that there are extreme examples of leftists like Pol Pot, but we all know there are extreme examples of everything. Of the people I know personally, the conservatives are constantly advocating the death of someone or other, while the liberals are not.)

I'm guessing you never heard of the Napoleonic wars?

Where France attacked Russia and Russia defended itself?

If it weren't for Russia in 1805, most of Europe would be speaking French right now.

If it weren't for Russia in 1945, most of Europe would be speaking German.

The only gratitude it gets is a bunch of name-calling. I don't know why they bother. They should pastoralize the entire continent for its insolence.

Those of us who love Voltaire think it wouldn't be such a bad idea for the world to be speaking French...:)

However, it isn't true. Napoleon's empire would have disintegrated from its own internal corruption just as all empires eventually disintegrate from their own internal corruption.

Napoleon didn't even demand the rest of europe to talk French, only Belgium which was considered historical french territory. All the rest were given self-governance with merely the demands of liberal reforms, mutual protection pact and a continental embargo against the british.
