Some people have travelling partners who don't appreciate you playing games on your computer whilst on vacation.Serbia wrote:When I played, I would continue to take my turns, even when on vacation. Or do people tend to vacation in desolate wastelands?
Then either don't travel with those people and/or divorce them, or tell them that your feelings and needs are more important than listening to them bitch you out about this.waauw wrote:Some people have travelling partners who don't appreciate you playing games on your computer whilst on vacation.Serbia wrote:When I played, I would continue to take my turns, even when on vacation. Honourably forfeit the game, as in pretty much every other game or sport when a player or team has to drop out due to circumstances foreseen or unforseen?Silly Knig-it wrote:And one is supposed to do what, when playing a doubles or more tournament, and someone's vacation comes up six months into the tournament?
Likewise. That's what's a phone is for ^0^Serbia wrote:When I played, I would continue to take my turns, even when on vacation. Or do people tend to vacation in desolate wastelands?
Simp won't play until he/she/zee/zir/thou can be sure everyone else is also pro gay and anti cis gendered whites.mookiemcgee wrote:Symm might be more understanding if he ever played the actual game or joined a tournament. Rumor has it he was asked to host a tourney, his reply is in saxitoxin's signatue.

No phone or Internet = desolate wastelands?Serbia wrote:When I played, I would continue to take my turns, even when on vacation. Or do people tend to vacation in desolate wastelands?
Many tournaments last a year or more. Theoretically everyone should have at least one vacation during that time period. If everyone followed your suggestion, everyone would forfeit and the whole thing would be a failure.Symmetry wrote:Honourably forfeit the game, as in pretty much every other game or sport when a player or team has to drop out due to circumstances foreseen or unforseen?Silly Knig-it wrote:And one is supposed to do what, when playing a doubles or more tournament, and someone's vacation comes up six months into the tournament?
Just an idea.
In this day and age, that qualifies.2dimes wrote:No phone or Internet = desolate wastelands?Serbia wrote:When I played, I would continue to take my turns, even when on vacation. Or do people tend to vacation in desolate wastelands?
I like going to places where people have not caused much change. Often there is no electricity there other than the batteries you bring and definately no cellular service, Internet is definately a couple days walk away.
Last week I was with a guy I used to work with, only a little over a two hour drive from our houses, trying to pull fish out of a small lake. I was actually surprised to have no cellular service in this spot but there was none.
Last turn I missed was on vacation, not because we were away from Internet service but because I was on vacation and thought I checked my turn that morning but must have checked it the morning before. Oops.
I think you would like sitting outside by a fire in a place without Internet and phones more than you suggest you might. Most people drink alcohol while doing it.

Fair point, but perhaps the fault is in the way such tournaments are organised. If it's going to take years, postponing games for a week or two shouldn't be a huge hassle.Dukasaur wrote:Many tournaments last a year or more.
