I don't recall seeing any report on this in the UK mainstream media - anyone in the States see it, or anywhere else for that matter?

Seems more like they're trying to topple Putin and westernize the country. Russia is the key to keep/reinstate US hegemony. Without Russia, the US has no chance of containing the rise of China, not without full scale war anyway. US hegemony is doomed, but as long as Putin is in power, this is unlikely.mrswdk wrote:Because what's the warning? That the US might attack Russia? Is he trying to suggest the US might nuke Russia?

I dont think that US goal is to nuke or conquer Russia... The country is too big and the population is resilient, so the goal is to force Russia into long arms race and thus exhaust its offensive potentials(so its cant make problems elsewhere).mrswdk wrote:Because what's the warning? As I said several times before US goal is not Russia, but China. On its own Russia can't do a lot outside of Europe/Central Asia/Middle East. Even if Putin tries to compete with US in other areas it will become too expensive for the Russians. Those are the limits and both Russia and US are aware of it. On the other hand China has different long term plans and is trying to straighten its capabilities(both military and economical) where Russians are not trying a lot(Africa, South America and South Asia). Since Russia and China have interests to keep Central Asia as peaceful place and US cant do a lot there biggest problem is Korean Peninsula. Defensive(read offensive) systems in South Korea will target both Russian and especially Chinese interests. Cherry of the problem is North Korea. That's the place where things can get out of hand very easily, and most likely will. In 5 to 10 years US will have such systems in South Korea and the world might end up in new cold war or even WW3. Only European-Russian deal on a long run can save the world from new cold war/WW3... and such deal is in the hands of the Germans now.mrswdk wrote:Look at the South China Sea. US are not known at showing mercy towards their vassals... Take EU for example.mrswdk wrote:South Korea isn't a concern. The public there are getting fed up of the US and the government is fine with having a good relationship with China, is never going to turn on China. US is just gonna push, push, push in the South China Sea, and as you say try to undermine Russia as a way of getting at China.
Too bad it won't be long before China's big enough to its tell the US to go fck itself.
If anything, we've been monitoring with no direct action, that I know of at least.mrswdk wrote: Look at the South China Sea.
