That's absolutely not true. Actually, I think that most of the problems people had with Owen were due to the fact that he was serious about most things he wrote, in his own special Oweny way. I get that people don't like that, but saying that it has no merit, seems harsh and a little too easy.

Agreed. I just wish that over the years he would have learned his audience and adapted his style a little. I'm not suggesting he lose his grit, humour and sense of irony, but at least lose the schtick that alienated many potential members and forum goers.

He has sent me private messages before to "not post in the forums" because I "was not even fun to spar with." Seems like a joke to me. Or at least he always tried to be totally opposite of whatever I said.

He may have shitposted new forum-goers regularly, but he also sent them private PMs to actually offer assistance. The amount of people that think they always understand his interests makes me laugh every time. As for Jdsizzle, I don't think anyone really cares what you say bro.

I remember one of my very first ventures into this forum. I asked an opinion question. I did not know that forum polls were an option. Owen posted some sarcastic comment, basically calling me stupid for not adding a poll. And that's when I took the time to find out how to add polls to a thread.

Sure, he could have been nicer about it, but I was grateful that he exposed me to the possibility of using forum polls. I've seen him do much the same thing with other players and other subjects. How many players learned how to properly link games after a snarky comment from Owen? At least a dozen that I've seen; probably hundreds that I haven't.

We can all wish that he wasn't such a snarky asshole sometimes but, hey, you can't have everything. All things considered, I'd rather have a snarky asshole who provides useful data than a honey-and-camomile love dove who has nothing useful to say.

That isn't really a great reason for anything, because generally someone will come on and provide that useful / helpful commentary without the grief.

So it's not "we need the data given and if he didn't, we would have no info". Because that same info will still make its way to the player / user. Not everyone else who is non snarky is a "love dove who has nothing useful to say". The slack will get picked up by other users, or encourage others to step in and help out who might not have otherwise done so.

I cant say what he did with other users but my experience has been the same as mookiemcgee. The only PM I got from him was a copy of his forum post telling me why I was wrong, which was also put on my wall in case I didnt see it in either of the two other places.

If this was my site I would have booted him off. Not because I dislike him (which I dont) but because of the poor attitude to new players or new posters. If he had kept his snarky rebukes for old hands and people that had been around for a while that would be fine.

Worse was when his little gang of trolls backed him up against a newb. A couple of times I challenged him but he is pretty dedicated to his own opinions.

I took on Owen many a time, and always said what I had to say. He pissed me off quite a bit, and we disagree about many things, but I also respected his knowledge of cc trivia, his own love-hate relationship with the site, and (sometimes, not often) his sense of humour. I never hid the things that we disagreed on, but I give credit where credit is due.
