On topic:

Thanks for the heads up, patches. I had thought it might look decent based on the trailers, maybe par for the course, but worth a watch. It sounds like a redbox rental, however. You saved me like $100.

But then I wouldn't be able to form a league. A kind of league dedicated to justice. A league that I term- the Avengers.

Or maybe the Justice Society of America.

I haven't decided yet.

Speaking of comic heroes Sym, other than John Constantine (whom I'm only vaguely familiar with), do the British have any DC/Marvel heroes or equivalents?

The Captain Britain series is being produced by Marvel, it seems.

Outside of DC and Marvel, there's Judge Dredd, of course. It sort of depends what you mean though. Doctor Who comes to mind, James Bond, perhaps.

Judge Dredd is British?!

I blame Sylvester Stalone for THAT mix up.

And I assume Captain Britain is the British version of Captain America?

Thanks for the warning, patches. I hope it will be somewhat entertaining when I watch it on DVD.

The DC animated movies are pretty good, if you feel like checking them out.

There's the whole Excalibur team.

And Marvelman/Miracleman.
There were a whole bunch in 50's/60's comics which were sort of revamped a few years ago, such as Thunderbolt Jaxon.

No, Captain Britain is one of the most powerful Marvel heroes.

Ah. So kind of like the Marvel version of Shazam. Near invulnerable, super strength, speed, flight, and powers based in magic. Puts him more on Thor's level than Captain America.

Thanks for the clarification.

Sort of, but granted powers by Merlin, if I remember right.

Well, here's the thing, it depends what you mean by a British superhero. Based in Britain? Created by a Brit? From a comic?

V from V for Vendetta is another one. Alan Moore and Neil Gaiman produced a lot of great comics between them, with some great heroes, and antiheroes.

But yeah, Dredd is from a British comic book.

patches70 wrote:Sorry PS, but that movie sucks balls. It's horrible. It's a mess of a movie. The critics panned it but I read comments on IMDB message boards to the effect "don't listen to the critics" and such and I've come to the conclusion that those posts taken at face value (as in regular people not studio plants) then they must be super fanboys because this movie has so many problems.

The writing is terrible. The dialog cringe inducing.
The fanboys said the action sequences were amazing. They were shit. Half the time I couldn't tell what the f*ck was going on during the fight, chase, battle scenes. The car chase was especially confusing. Lois Lane is fucking retarded.
And why is Batman so pissed off at Superman anyway? His motivation is shit. They fucked up Doomsday and Lordy don't even get me started on Lex Luther. Lex Luther, the super evil genius who in this movie couldn't even string together a sentence and in the end is whimpering and crying in a cell? Luther is a lot of things, but he ain't no crybaby.
The reveals of the future members of the Justice League looked horrible. Aquaman looked stupid. Cyborg was ridiculous and Flash was just cliche.

There were some positives I suppose. Ben didn't do horrible as Batman considering what he had to work with. Gadot was pretty good, about the only decent thing in the movie and she had about a ten minute screen time. The best scene in the whole movie is when Wonder Woman got punched and knocked down by Doomsday and her sword got dropped. She looks up and gives this smile like "About Time I had a real challenge!" as she reaches to retrieve her sword. That was decent. She looked amazing and Gal Gadot is pretty hot but she also had that Amazon physique which helps lend credence to the character Wonder Woman.
But that's about it. The soundtrack was decent but overbearing at times.

What's worse is Zack Snyder is slated to direct a bunch more of the DCCU, that is a mistake. He did a good job with Watchmen and 300 but since then he's been shit. He was definitely a bad choice and he should be dumped as soon as possible. The critics might be right, Batman v Superman might just be the movie that destroyed the entire DC cinematic universe.

It fucking sucks. There is no need to go watch this turd of a movie.

Yeah dude, Can't disagree with a bit of your gripes. In my experience, everytime I lt someone impact me with 'don't see that movie' I have been dissapointed. Avatar was one of those movies, turns out one of my top 5.
The fights were a little lack-lusterm but yeah Benfleck did a great job IMO and I'm excited about Wonder Woman. I have been a huge HUGe fan of Zimmers soiundtrackc in the past, notabhly the 5th dimension fil;ms like Inception and Intersterllar. But there is more myusic I will seek freom the soundtrack. I've already seen it twice and I want to see it again. I agree the tie in parts with meta-humans being weak, expected one more justice league member to hoin the frray. I saw it 3 times already ::D

Aye, both Alan Moore comics with political subtexts- Nixon's America, and Thatcher's Britain.

What did you think of The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, and From Hell?

They all kinda suck compared to the books. He's pretty much disowned the movies based on his books at this point.

From Hell is one that I need to rewatch. I read the series first, and it's really weird. All I could think when I watched the film was- "how is this From Hell?".

League was a deeply creepy book. Especially Mr Hyde.

patches70 wrote:We got Wonder Woman, typically a goofy character to begin with in which the movie manages to make really cool. She's a badass in this movie, and she serves zero purpose. Hey, instead of having Superman stab Doomsday so that he can in turn get stabbed to death himself, let Wonder Woman toss that Kyrptospear like a javelin right into Doomsday's heart after Batman Kryptogasses him? Then you'd have an actual purpose for Wonder Woman. Ok whatever, Superman has to die. In all truth, the movie would have been better if you get rid of Batman and Superman and just have Wonder Woman fight Doomsday the whole movie.

That would have been beyond moronic. Doomsday is a Superman villain, he's a plot device that exists for the sole sake of fighting Superman, and Wonder Woman is supposed to be leagues below him power-wise.
