Ah, one of those. Don't be surprised if they still hook up off and on until something major happens, like a big fight/argument or something that edges into the legal territory. Had a friend that was in a similar situation. His girlfriend was a psycho bitch though, so that may not really apply to you son's situation. And no, that is not an exaggeration. She tried to control his personal life (like hanging out with friends and doing hobbies), cheated on him on at least a couple of occasions, started calling to harass his mother, and the kid she had may or may not have been his (even had DNA tests done, though I never heard the results of it). I think I was one of his friends she tolerated the most, but I could not stand her. To go along with all that stuff, she constantly bitched and moaned whenever my friend wasn't around. She was not a pleasant person. Her parents were pretty nice though. Her, not so much.
Now he is happily married to another woman for 3 years and had a kid with her.
