Here, I'll even make it easy for you. The first link says that in 2013, 39 people were executed in the US. The second says that in 2013, 2400 people were executed in China, possibly much more due to the fact that China doesn't even fucking talk about everyone they execute.
Yeah, we have the death penalty, but the number of people we kill is a rounding error compared to the number you kill (even after adjusting for population size).
(For future reference, my comment was not intended to say that we don't have the death penalty in the US; it was intended to say that we kill people here for committing crimes, not for having the wrong political opinions (spoiler: the link Mets provided said that the vast majority of executions in China are for violent, nonpolitical offenses). I can see now that it was unclear that I was trying to make that point. But the opportunity you gave me was much more fun than that.)

Still waiting for you to point out the objective cosmic law that grants more legitimacy to a nation than merely the collective recognition of other nations.saxitoxin wrote:That's like asking "why is Endor more of a fictitious planet than Earth?"Metsfanmax wrote:Philosophical question of the day: why is Israel any more of a fictitious state than the United States?
Huh? States are social concepts, not physical objects. They only exist in the minds of humans, not in the physical world. Physical laws aren't used to describe things not of the physical world.Metsfanmax wrote:Still waiting for you to point out the objective cosmic law that grants more legitimacy to a nation than merely the collective recognition of other nations.saxitoxin wrote:That's like asking "why is Endor more of a fictitious planet than Earth?"Metsfanmax wrote:Philosophical question of the day: why is Israel any more of a fictitious state than the United States?

Indeed. Precisely. So please, go on and on about how some states are less fictitious than others. It is enlightening.saxitoxin wrote:Huh? States are social concepts, not physical objects. The day Israel can't afford to buy bullets is the day before this mess gets resolved."We believe that what led to the drop in investment in Israel are Operation Protective Edge and the boycotts Israel is facing," Dr.
Roni Manos of the College of Management and one of the authors of the report's summary told Ynet.

That's the idea, Oren!Right now Israel spends less on the struggle against BDS– boycott divestment sanctions, the effort to delegitimize Israel in the world– spends less on that effort than it spends on a platoon of tanks or on a single F15 plane, and yet if we are delegitimized, denied the right to defend ourselves, the tanks won’t be able to move and the plane wont be able to take off.

Track and field athletes at the Olympics have to wear numbers on their back to identify them.notyou2 wrote:Gabon, are you daft?
What did nazi Germany do to the Jews to identify them?
Yes, that's right, they put a symbol on them. Then they were easily identified. Why did they do that? Because they hated anyone that is different. They also did it to the Roma and homosexuals.
Do you fail to see the irony here?

Yeah yeah, I'm sure that is the point of their mission. I think they're just fleeing the disaster that is Greece.saxitoxin wrote:The five-ship Freedom Flotilla III has departed Greece in another attempt to run the Israeli blockade of Gaza and bring basic medicine and other necessities to the Palestinian people, whose supplies are dwindling after 8 years of Israeli siege. Naval blockades of sovereign states are illegal under international law and the State of Palestine is recognized by 135 (70%) of the world's states. The last two Freedom Flotillas were stopped and boarded by the Israeli navy, in flagrant violation of the law of the sea.
This year's flotilla will include Moncef Marzouk (ex-president of Tunisia), Basel Ghattas (member of the imaginary Israeli parliament), Joe Meadors (U.S. Navy veteran who barely survived the treacherous Israeli attack on the unarmed USS Liberty), and others. Go Freedom Flotilla!

The so-called "Anti-Defamation League" (a rabid pro-Israel hate group) is already denouncing the UCC as anti-Semitic (officially they're "troubled and dismayed") but their boy-who-cried-wolfism has rendered that label totally impotent."As disciples of Jesus, we hear and seek to heed his call to be peacemakers, responding to violence with nonviolence and extending love to all," said Rev. John Deckenback, Conference Minister of the Central Atlantic Conference of the UCC, which submitted the resolution to the synod. "It is in that spirit, and a desire to support Palestinians in their struggle for freedom, that the United Church of Christ has passed this resolution.”
