Tuktoyaktuk is a place not a caribou you uneducated American.DaGip wrote:Are you kiddin'? That's a STEAL for good Tuktoyaktuk these days!notyou2 wrote:That's about right for Tuktoyaktuk.mrswdk wrote:Is $230 a lot for a 7kg turkey?

I thought you said $230 was about right for Tuktoyaktuk? I misunderstood. I thought you meant the animal...not the place. But I would so much love to have a Caribou for Thanksgiving, that would be entirely unique!notyou2 wrote:Tuktoyaktuk is a place not a caribou you uneducated American.DaGip wrote:Are you kiddin'? I don't believe $230.00 is a fair reckoning of economics in Tuktoyaktuk. I think your assessment is indeed an exaggeration of the true cost of living. $230.00 is probably a week's worth of normal, necessary grocery items (maybe two). And are we talking Canadian or American dollars? $230 Canadian is going to run about $260 American, but either way the cost of living in Tuktoyaktuk isn't going to be 1,100% more than in other Canadian provinces or American states. Twice as much at the most. So, I am deducing that a frozen 12-14 lb (5-7 kg) turkey will more than likely run you between $40-$50. Still expensive, but far from equating your profound exaggeration.notyou2 wrote:$230.00 is about right for a turkey in Tuktoyaktuk. I was addressing Mrs. WDK's post. Walter will be pissed off at her when he finds out she paid that kind of money for a turkey. I bet he spanks her.

What currency are you talking about? Dollars? If so...which dollar? If you are talking Yuan, then I suppose $230 isn't far fetched. Then you probably would be correct that a $40 turkey in Tuktoyaktuk would be worth $230 in Chinese Yuan. I won't dispute this. Though in my neck of the woods a 7kg bird would cost around $20, depending if I am just gonna buy a generic brand and not a Butterball or something.mrswdk wrote:Well we just paid $230 for our turkey so I am going to go with notyou2's answer here.

Nah, I converted it to American dollars. Was about 1500 Yuan, although that also included a whole bunch of side dishes.DaGip wrote:What currency are you talking about? Dollars? If so...which dollar? And since I can't put this image into Google Butcherate, could you please tell me what this picture says?
The same thing with Ravioli. The big Ravioli sucks, but the mini raviolis are delicious!riskllama wrote:but not the "BIG" beefaroni. it's terrible for some reason...

My thoughts exactly.Swifte wrote:I have to say stuffing... it's the only thing I never eat any other time of the year.
Ok, this year my family was considering on having the local grocery store provide our thanksgiving meal for us, and the bill for the turkey and all the sides would have run us about $200. So, I consider that price to be normal.mrswdk wrote:Nah, I converted it to American dollars.
