there used to be at least 3 pages of available games for that "boring" setting... don't forget, there are many sub-sets of players that exist on this site and rarely, if ever, play each other. there is a thread in the GD right now about how freestyle has all but been destroyed by changes made by the powers that be. would i have ever known that had it not been posted? nope. does it really affect my playing? nope... but then again, in a way, it does... it shows how few people are here now, being as active as before... so, you may say the games i play are boring, but i used to be able to run 10-20 at a time and have 3 or more pages to select from... i don't know what types of games you play, but have you seen a decline in the number of games available? so, you should care when i say that the type of games i like are all but dead... that doesn't just represent me... that represents a slew of people that have more than likely just moved on to other things... don't look at CC through your perspective only, try to get the whole picture... actually, you will now get the whole picture via a spam mail from team CC every month!!! ha...-el Jesus negro

As a player of mostly no cards and flat rate sequential the wait for games to fill can be absolutely excruciating at times. Sure, some prefer other options but the soul of the game lies in the classic settings and you can't let those games die as they are the bridge between new players and more advanced settings and maps.
I exemplify the casual player of this game these days and when you can no longer draw me in you have a problem since the vast majority of new players aren't going to be die-hards, especially right off the bat. If the games can't fill and move quickly (or at least at a "reasonable" pace) The Great Decline will continue unabated. People will deal with a crap UI, a poorly designed site and even a dead/kinda shitty community to a degree but they absolutely will not deal with sitting around and waiting in this age of instant gratification.
Finally, what's left of this community is becoming toxic and that's a sure way to drive away new players thus making games take even longer to fill. My days of being involved with it are well passed to I can't offer many solutions there but from the rare visit I make I see too much snark and elitism, two things that can easily be stopped by just not posting it.

This is so right nowadays with this community. Sure there are some good folks out there, but most of the games I've been in recently, no matter the genre, there's always at least one person crying, raging, and cussing out another. Too toxic here anymore.

Try playing mainly tournaments. There's much more of a spirit of brotherhood among the tournament crowd than there is in public games.

I'm not sure I agree with that. I join a lot of large escalating tournaments and the amount of players that are so clueless about how to play drives me mad. It's always the same people signing up as well. Sure, I get to know some good players along the way and they become acquaintances or whatever, but some are just idiots who don't know better.

A quick glance at the latest F400 shows 44 active clans.
If we only count 20 players per clan that's 880 people.
Perhaps there has been a decline in public team games because of the tremendous success of the clan scene?
And that would be... wait for it... something that could be seen as positive, and a success for team CC.
But ofc, whining is a lot more fun, right?

Well, you should consider the isolating effect that clans reinforce. It's very difficult for a newcomer to join a clan. For me, after several years I joined the clan, MementoMori, that was recently resurrected by TheMissionary. Without that event, I'd still be clanless.
In short, counting clanmembers isn't a positive indicator of growth nor success for CC. Way back in the day, I had a post recommending that a clan for newbs be founded, but it hasn't picked up steam (who would want to take such a burden anyway?). Besides, there's a substitute: the newbie training grounds thing, but I'm not sure how effective that is in encouraging prolonged membership. I certainly didn't join it, nor did I find it helpful after perusing that side of the forum years ago.

It is not easy for me, being a patriotic American, to agree with a commie bastard. But, BBS is point on here.

when you click join a game, only the newest 100 games are shown on the front page...
once a game goes past the front page the odds of it getting filled drop exponentially...
why i remember a time when the oldest games were on the front page... that meant eventually your game was going to make it to the front page and SOMEONE would join it...
now... well, just keep inviting until someone finally says yes... gl to ya
games getting filled has jack shit to do with clans...
hell if i'm a new player, used to be i could click on a game on the front page and i may get my ass whooped but the thing would start that day... now if you click on a game on the front page you better hope it fills before more games get created and knock it off the front page... cause when that happens, well you're not playing anytime soon sir...
