Greetings, comrades, to Issue 120!

In our Friendly Fire section, our epic Dispatch Trivia contest ends and our next contest begins! You think you know CC maps well? Check out the Guess the Map contest in Friendly Fire!

Our War Games section, as always, has excellent coverage of the tournament world.

In the Mess Hall, we see the Return of Mafia, as three excellent articles cover the mini-renaissance of mafia games on Conquer Club!

In the invisible Late-Breaking News section, we have coverage of today's UI update, that just went live less than half an hour ago! Help me make this section visible. I have a GA medal for the first person to post in this thread and accurately describe the most important features of today's update! (Fine print: this contest is closed to mods...:()

And now for our regular look at a selection of the tournaments in sign-ups:

Mad Championship [Luxembourg I]: http://www.conquerclub.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=205926
Another edition of mad777's Mad Championship is now available on my of personal favorite maps: Luxembourg. Can you climb to the top of the leader board in this straight forward bracket tourney and series? Boasting competitors of the highest nature in CC, this whole series is a great test of your skill as a player. I would also like to mention that any lovers of Nuclear spoils should definitely look further into this contest as it is nuclear throughout.

These are my picks, but if you don't like any of these go to the Create/Join a Tournament or Tournaments Tab and take a look at the many others waiting to be filled.

If you're craving tourney action now, check out the Requests for Immediate Players section of the tournament forum. You can be playing very quickly after signing up as a reserve.

Dispatch Trivia - Complete! by iAmCaffeine
Spoiler
Well, thank you to everyone who participated in the Dispatch Trivia and helped to make this happen. A special thanks to Dukasaur for his assistance behind the scenes and providing the great prizes we have! It's time to put the final tallies together and see who won after ten gruelling rounds of intense trivia (kinda).

Final Scoreboard
#1 Ffraid (108)
#2 dakky21 (105)
#3 anamainiacks (39)
#4 Hannibal 19 (28)
#5 skillfusniper33 (18)
#6 Gilligan (17)
#7 macbone (10)
#8 Leehar (9)

Congratulations to Ffraid! Throughout the entire series there was a close battle for the top spot, but Ffraid held onto the lead for a long time and pulled slightly further ahead in the last, extra-large edition of trivia.

The prizes for round ten only will be awarded as follows:
Ffraid and anamainiacks both receive a Pink Star, while skillfusniper33 receives a Cyan Star, and Dakky will get an Orange Star! Well done.

For winning the entire contest, Ffraid will receive a year of premium membership! =D> =D>

Second place winner dakky21 gets 1250 credits (the equivalent of six months of premium, as the administration wants all departmental prizes paid out in credits now) while anamainiacks and macbone each get a weekly prize of 625 credits. Well done!
=D>

The top five performers all win a GA medal.

Guess the Map -- Round 1 by dakky21
Spoiler
.
A new contest begins!

Image
In this contest, you will identify Conquer Club maps by small samples extracted from them. Look in the circles, see if you can spot what map that image is extracted from, and PM to dakky21. There will be 10 rounds with 9 images each, for a maximum score of 90. The images will gradually become more difficult as the issues move on.
  • You must PM your answers to dakky21. Please do not answer by posting in the thread or PMing to anyone else. Only answers sent to dakky21 will be official.
  • Answers to each issue's quiz must be sent before the next issue is published. The Dispatch schedule is roughly once every two weeks, but it varies quite a bit from that, and we will not be responsible for meeting any specific dates. Therefore, please don't dilly-dally: send your answers to dakky as soon as you can!
  • Minor typos will be overlooked. If you mean "Jamaica" and you type "Jamiaca" that's fine. HOWEVER, we are not finishing your thought for you: there is both a Baltic States and a Baltic Crusades. If you just type "Baltic" that is a WRONG answer, because it would require us to finish the thought and decide between Crusades and States.
  • Points will be cumulative over the 10 issues.
  • Depending on interest, the 10th round may carry bonus images and/or bonus points.
  • In case of a tie at the end of the contest, dakky21 will PM a supplementary tiebreaking list of extremely difficult images.
  • Please format your answers as follows:Number dot space Name of Map
    (Example:
    • 1. Jamaica
      2. USA
      3. Austerlitz
Prizes:
  • First place 2000 credits
  • Second place 1000 credits
  • Third place 625 credits
  • Top five contestants get a GA medal.
  • To qualify for any of the above prizes, you must score at least 35 points over the course of the contest.
  • If and only if we get 25 or more contestants, we will have a random draw for a 6th GA medal.
  • If and only if we get 75 or more contestants, the top player will get a Challenge Medal in addition to other prizes.
  • Every issue the top contestant will get one or more Conquer Stars. Just like everything else about the stars, this is shrouded in mystery, so there's no telling what kind of star you will get! Drab? Auburn? Pink? A box of 50 Auburns? Wouldn't you like to know? This star prize can only be won once, so if you win it in week 1 and you are the top contestant in week 2 again, the prize in week 2 will go to the second place contestant, and so on down the list.

Mess Hall (the return of Mafia!)

Post by Dukasaur »

Image

The Mafia forum has always been a big part of what drives this section forward. After a brief period on inactivity, we are back in action with 3 Mafia articles.

At this time, I would also like to welcome jak111 and StorrZerg to the Dispatch Team! Welcome aboard, both of you!

Mafia Trivia Round 1 by jak111
Spoiler
With the slight increase of interest with mafia lately. I think it's time to begin putting on the thinking caps out there and begin answering some trivia questions on roles, rules and others. Points for each question right will be added up and the winner will get to name and create a custom role for a future mafia game. (With a few restrictions of course, but that will be discussed with the winner when the time comes). This Trivia will consist of 5 issues! With points across all issues being added up! Each issue will consist of 10 questions!

To partake in this trivia simply inbox jak111 with your answers. You only have one attempt at each question, so make it count!

In the event of a tie, if there are fewer than 6 ties for first place I'll allow all 6 to create a custom role from top to bottom to be used in a future mafia game to be hosted by me.

For this first issue, we'll look at some very basic and common roles and rules to make things easy. Keep in mind, the harder the question, the more point it's worth! This issue will be easy with 1 pointers, however, later issues will be worth many more points with harder questions.
  1. In the night I may visit a single person. In the morning I will know whether they are "Town" or "Anti-Town". What role am I? (1 point)
  2. For a Mafia game to be played, there are two factions which must exist, what are they? (1 point)
  3. In the night I may visit a single person. In the morning I will know who they went to visit if they went out in the night. What role am I? (1 point)
  4. In Mafia, there are two main phases which are played, what are they? (1 point)
  5. In the night I may visit a single person. Any action they perform will not work due to me being there. What role am I? (1 point)
  6. Is it okay to talk about a currently ongoing game in PM's or in another thread with other people? (1 point)
  7. In the night I may visit a single person. If a kill attempt is made on them it will fail and nothing else will happen. What role am I? (1 point)
  8. The person who makes the rules of the game is the game's ___? (1 point)
  9. In the night I may visit a single person, in the morning I will learn of anyone who visits him. What role am I? (1 point)
  10. What does the term "FOS" mean? (1 point)
Mafia Experiments by jak111
Spoiler
For those of you who have not yet joined a single game of Mafia here at ConquerClub. There are a few things you should know about it.
  • It is a giant family. Once you enter the Mafia scene you are part of it. Continue to stick around and you'll meet a bigger part of the family.
  • No matter how much you fight in a game, at the end of the day you are all still friends enjoying a game that you love. (Or hopefully will love soon ;D)
  • Everyone for the most part here are respectful of each other. (Just remember, they will try to provoke reactions to make you slip).
It is a pretty free bunch, as long as you can respect some simple courtesy rules you will find the forum is quite free to your speech, obviously as long as you do not take it to far. To help you in this area if you're unsure, here are a few things to consider.
  • While a game is ongoing, if you are not in it, please do not post in the thread. While you may have something to say, save it until endgame to which all comments are welcome whether you were in the game or outside watching it progress. Let the players have their space for games in progress.
  • If you have questions there is a Mafia Discussions sub-forum. Feel free to ask questions or bring up flavour ideas for future mafia games here. Veterans will be happy to answer questions when they are free.
  • Keep ongoing game chat in the game its self. While yes, it is just a game, it is not fun to spoil it for others.
Edocsil is running a Cyborgs Mafia with no set number of players. It is currently in sign-ups and is not flavour run (Meaning the bad-guys in a lore are not 100% bad-guys in the game, same with the good-guys). Must keep activity up with a post every day or two MINIMUM. Come on in and sign up. Join the growing family of Mafia players.

We are always looking for fresh blood to join the mafia scene and do not be disappointed if you die early in your first few games. There will always be more.

You may even find yourself part of my own little experimental games. Which more so belong in an asylum than in the light of day.

Newbie Help

Want to get into the Mafia scene, but don't know how to play or even what it is? Consult these threads: Mafia Information, Mafia and You, and Rules and Terms of Mafia.
Too much work? Too lazy to read through everything? No worries, you can always jump right into a game and ask for other players or the game runner to help guide you.
Feel Free to Contact StorrZerg with any questions.

What is "Mafia"?
Mafia is an educated guessing game of epic proportions. The objective of the game is to lynch or kill all mafia members before they outnumber the rest of the town. It's much like a game of poker because mafia members are also part of the town during the day and may manipulate the vote to their liking. If the mafia at any time outnumber or equal the townspeople, they win. The town's goal is to lynch all the members of the mafia.

Mafia News
We have an up and coming Show match between GoN and TNC! These two clans will be pitting their best 12 against each other, yes I know this can't be a true match to the death. We will have a 3rd party mod host the game, as well as 3rd party judges to decided the Mvps of each faction for the game. Place your bets boys and girls, this is going to be magical.

A new series of games will be starting, and the aim is to help introduce newer players to the game of Mafia, as well as educating them with their Conquer Club peers. So please, if you have not played a game and have no idea what I am talking about join "Newbie Mafia"

Recently Finished Games

With the conclusion of Epic Mafia Corruption #1, the final three showdown could have not been any more exciting. Three people, each in a separate faction and only one person could win. I guess the joke is on everyone with the Fool taking home the win. http://www.conquerclub.com/forum/viewto ... 3&t=204943

On Going Games
Currently we have 2 on going games Game of thrones Mafia: hosted by StorrZerg and Cyborgs Mafia: hosted by edocsil

At the moment we have a crazy game going on in the land of Westerros, some of you might know this place from Game of Thrones. No one really knows whats going on, the only conclusion is "Things are Going Down" Day 3 we find: Stannis Baratheon found dead with Margaery Tyrell, and at the end of day 3 we ask our selves "Where Do Whores Go? Can town figure out the mafia in time? How long can they last before the corruption in the 7 kingdoms overwhelms them? With Ned dead (spoilers I WAS NED HOW DID I DIE? seriously how does the mod die in his own game?)Who will rise above the filthy townies, and rule this great land? http://www.conquerclub.com/forum/viewto ... 3&t=205178

Cyborgs Mafia is a smaller game, starting with 12 people, yet not much else is known. The town was pretty lame on day 1, no vengeance for blood or anything which resulted in no lynch! How will they ever recover from this day 1 catastrophe? http://www.conquerclub.com/forum/viewto ... 3&t=204744

The updates I've noticed so far:
  • Highlight over all buttons
  • New PM rolls
  • Live Chat changed to Chat Rooms
  • Are the quick links to My Games | Purchase | Terms Of Use | Privacy Policy | Rules new?
  • Referral program has it's own tab?
That's all I've got for now.

Edit: The button highlight includes the ready/waiting/playing buttons next to a player's name in a game, just to clarify. Also, there is an in-game animation for rank changes. Not just New PM button rolling, but Post Reply, New Topic etc. all of that style.

Are you referring to the text floating to the cursor on maps when attacking, reinforcing etc?

the "rolling" of the buttons when passing over them with the mouse pointer.

I think caffeine got it. I notice it too with selecting ratings (seem to flash more than roll) too.

Would it be the visual effects that occur in many screens. In the rating screen when you click on 5 stars, the others lite up in sequence quickly. I just won a star and the graphics for that have changed and they roll up in video as opposed to one screen image to the next. Lame i know but desperate times call for desperate measures.

Also, Beta Bucks Introduced and/or Olympic medals Introduced.

And one more stab at the new feature: Is it new "The Championships" Gold, Silver, and Bronze medals? I see that none have been issued yet, so I assume these are new.

A bit of a shot in the dark since I only started playing again recently; but the stats, snapshot (or maybe analyse in snapshot) when you are looking at Live Action games? (I only see it when I'm logged out though, is that a premium thing?)
