if chile manages to get a draw against spain, i'm willing to bet anything they'll agree to draw vs the dutch too. with a draw between them in the final game, it won't matter what spain does vs australia as the chileans and the dutch will both qualify.

You keep on forgetting that the second will face brazil and that netherlands always play their third group stage game at 100%. I m taking that bet.

assuming the chileans manage a draw vs spain and everybody beats australia, then the chileans will have 2 options for the game vs the dutch:

1. settle for a tacit non-combat draw where they take 2nd place and the dutch get first, sending spain home
2. try to win the game and get first place, but risk losing and going home.
considering the difference between the 2 teams, they'll take option #1.

and no, the dutch aren't always playing their 3rd game at 100% and they're not afraid to "fix" games.

at euro 2008 they had 2 wins and a guaranteed first place before the 3rd game. they were facing romania and tried their best to lose. that would have given romania the 2nd place and it would have sent home italy and france. sadly the romanians were so shit they actually managed to lose that game despite holland's best efforts not to win. :))

so yeah, the dutch, if given the option to eliminate a powerful opponent like spain, they'll do it in a heartbeat.

I was in the stadium in switzerland watching france-italy that day, and was obviously following the s ore of netherlands-romania as our fate depended on a dutch win. I didn t watch the game obviously, but i was impressed by the fact that netherlands actually won a game that was better strategically to lose. Not even a draw! I doubt you could win a game that you pretend to lose, no matter how bad the opposition is.

believe me, they tried losing.
almost all players fielded were reserves and there was a point where they were getting out of our strikers' way just to let us shoot and score and we kept sending the ball anywhere but the net.
the first goal surprised them, it was a shitty cross from the right that somehow went past 4 romanian defenders that failed to hit it and it came right in front of huntelaar who hit it by instinct and a few seconds after that you could almost see regret on his face.

some time after that shameful game some of our guys admitted the dutch were asking them to try and win.

USA scores 31 seconds into the match and with the exception of a few good attacks spent the remainder of the half turning it over to Ghana.

The Americans are unimpressive and if their play doesn't pick up, it won't surprise me to see them surrender 3 unanswered goals in the second half.

Better than any other American strikers. Johannsson, his sub, is coughing up the ball every time he touches it!

Ghana is so much more athletic. Howard has been huge.

*Donovan

Hey might get a call, since Altidore is most likely done for this WC.

But I doubt it, after Klinsman's brat son's tweet, it's clear there's a feud between them.

Who do you want me to root for, nietzsche? Normally I would cheer for Mexico, but my friend's husband is real dick when it comes to Mexican soccer, so part of me wants to root against him since he'll drink himself silly in sorrow.

USA got incredibly lucky tonight. Ghana dominated this game in between the two American goals. Amazing win though, and gives us a chance going forward.

Nigeria vs. Iran was utterly boring. Nigeria played ineptly offensively, and Iran just doesn't seem to have any offensive ability.

Germany, wow. Pepe was idiotic. Germans will cruise through this group now. USA has a chance against Portugal... but after struggling against Ghana, I can't see them winning again. Two straight loses, Ghana vs. Portugal to decide 2nd place.

Bollocks.

In case germany ends up with 9, i see very possible a triple tie with 3 points. That would be crazy, you guys need to be carefull with your goal average and you might still make it in that scenario.

I just saw that the brasilian turtle that forecasts scores just ate the mexican sardina. This means mexico is going to beat brazil.
