I'm not sure I want to keep mass joining at bay.
Why not?.
One person playing 300 of these games, and having 400+ points total, they had to have lost more than 80% of their games, and it should count against them.
Expected win rate is 25% since there are 4 teams.
King Zvonimir right now is 26.4%
benga is at 48.4%
loenatik is at 14.7%
Metalon is at 18.75%
So, as you can see; the players joining mass games are just like the regular players. Some are scoring amazing, some are average and some are failing.
The players that are failing (i.e. loenatik) are joining games with lots of different partners, taking a chance on new players. This is rarely an effective team strategy, but it is not something I would like to discourage. As a Community Team member, I want to promote those sort of inpromptu matches. It may be that loenatik doesn't make a single friend. I can say already though; I didn't know who he was in March. So he (she) is now a member of the CC community in a way he wasn't before.
-------------------------------------
You say losing 80% should count against them. It does, in that they give lots of other players fog and doubles medals and that they lose points.
-------------------------------------
Finally, we have to remember how punishment tactics will trickle down. Loenatik can afford to lose 100 points. I could just take them away and he would still be top 100. What about the little guys who are barely going to scrape their way to a medal? Can they afford a punishment? We need to remember that doubles is a team effort. If you can't find a good team-mate; or neither of you know how to play Antarctica; this could be an impossible challenge.
The participation points make it so that everyone who makes a legitimate effort can still get to the medal.

In short, I understand your frustration. This scoreboard very much caters to the "hardcore" gamers. On average, this challenge should only require joining 16 games. I play about 5 games a month, so if I were to spend all my games on the challenge for the next 3 months I still might not get the medal (time limits notwithstanding). Even if I only rewarded wins, the hardcore players would still have an edge. I haven't heard any complaints about no waiting games, so clearly something is working. In the end, strive for your personal best. Nothing can take your pride away. You may have a job that doesn't allow you 10 hours a day on CC or no team-mates and that's fine. Not everyone needs 600 points. Everyone only needs 40 points.
