favorite strategy

i was just curious how most people here at CC like to play risk.

i play by advancing slowly and capturing continents.

if your choice isn't one of the options chose other and post what your choice would be.

The different options overlap. Also I use different strategy for different games.

In general I don't worry about continents in escalating games. The continents will really only help to ensure you survive to round 6 or so. But you waste a decent amount of men capturing a continent and then it may attract attention from people trying to cut you down. Worth it in some situations but in my opinion its generally not your best bet with the way we start games on this site. So I advance slowly but usually not with the goal of gaining a continent. Just to survive really.

I'm considered other, I will slowly take land and be the first to jump on anyone trying to claim a continent.
This strategy doesn't work well with making friends.

MOstly, I'll find where i have the most chance of over taking a continent or two, then i like.. stock up and start wiping out other continents.. people are usually set off guard while you stock up, you perhaps just taking one country, mavoing all but one army back, and repeating... then.. you just wipe out a certain player. They don't see it coming. and... as already statd... not a great ay to make friends...

but my desire to amuse others usually wins them over :wink:

Holding continents like that and stock piling your armies does nothing BUT draw attention to you. I don't know how anyone could not see an elimination coming when one person is stockpiling.

Sully it is cause of deception we make it look like we gonna go one way and when were ready we head in another, My best stratigy is to let 1 or 2 people hold my cards for me that is why monkey script is so important. I use to hate it when I eliminated someone and had miscounted and got no cards

capture a continent and try and stop anyone else controlling a continent this one normally ends we me spreading myself a bit thin and getting killed

It all depends on what your draw is like, on whether you try and hold a continent from the off or try and head towards one. And also what other people do, say, in one Asia game, I had 3 in India and was going to take it, however, so did someone else so I had to fort all of my troops into Siam and take that instead.

In every game I just try not to spread too thin if possible, but sometimes with abysmal dice rolls thats inevitable.

I remember i was trapped by my territorys and someone let me out

i prefer to control oceania in the beginning because i think it is a pretty good starting point cause it can only be attacked by 1 territory. Then it depends where by other armies are and I would expand from there to asia. Dunno if this is a good strategy but im kinda of a begginner.

highborn has taken me out more times in team games than singles and he has been my teammate all but one of those and when he is screaming for jack that is me. now to find out what a good player YOU are take out your team mate and see if you can still win.

Well. I get killed of by my own people rather extensively as well. But that's because they claim that they always do better without me than with me... As long as I get the points though I don't complain too much...
