I thought you were a kiwi, shouldn't you be supporting Taylor and the like?BoganGod wrote:I think the word we are searching for is bland, not boring. CoF feel free to visit just maybe don't be wearing last year's mitchel johnson teashirt. You know the one "He bowls to the left, he bowls to the right. Johnson is shite"
ashes are boring again, would it be too much to ask to have some closer matches. Rather than a flogging being delivered by either side.

Yup, there have been a raft of home demolitions based on the differing pitches (eg india lost 0-4 on fast, bouncy Aussie decks; but then returned the humiliation with a 4-0 win on the turning tracks at home.)Chariot of Fire wrote:Aussies - young, keen and hungry and just coming of age.
England - long in the tooth, complacent and lacking spark
In truth this Ashes series came way too soon after the last (pretty ridiculous really) and Bogan's spot on when he talks about one-sided results. Credit to the Aussies though - they're the hungrier for success.
It also got me thinking....cricket is probably the sport where 'playing away' is more disadvantageous than any other. Would that be right?
http://www.espncricinfo.com/magazine/co ... 99427.html"The fractured, divided and self-absorbed Australia/England team (delete according to whether you are discussing this Ashes series or the last one) have proved woefully incapable of showing the guts, fortitude and will power to match the ruthless, united and courageous team spirit of England/Australia. Sadly, England/Australia give the impression of being more interested in money, glory and fame than in putting their bodies on the line for their country. There is a clear lack of leadership from Clarke/Cook, and one senses that old wounds have not properly healed between key senior players. If this is the best XI wearing the three lions/baggy green, then one wonders about the moral collapse and decadence of a once proud old/young nation."

England - long in the tooth, complacent and lacking spark some truth in this, though I do wonder whether we would be judging them so harshly if we had not built them up so much/expected so much better based on recent form against the aussies.

The ashes now seems more of a commute, day in day out, then a rare well planned special holiday and Bogan's spot on when he talks about one-sided results. Credit to the Aussies though - they're the hungrier for success.

Though leehar makes some good points on the topic. I know historically there has been marked disadvantage in visiting India. A number of times the aussies and kiwis have flat out accused the Indians of arranging a nice dose of debilitating food poisoning!
Professional outfits? Aussie team was less successful but more professional under their last saffa coach. Present coach has benefited enormously from a lot of the structural changes his predecessor put in place. Sometimes the professionalism is not very apparent. Note the cheap way an aussie that does know better, got run out. Chasing a single that was never there. I can't help thinking that professionals wouldn't give up their wickets quite so cheaply.leehar wrote:However, I wouldn't have expected the same with England/Aus since the tracks are pretty similar, so perhaps it's just home support and maybe some jetlag from time differences? But these are professional outfits so they should be able to manage!

You reminded me about another interesting article about the battle to be the world's fastest with Shoaib Akhtar and Brett lee.BoganGod wrote: Took the time to read the article you quoted from. Very interesting, thank you for posting it mate. I enjoyed it.
I'm longing to again see a day when the windies, lanka, and pakistan were all teams to be feared. As a kid mucking around, didn't mind pretending to be playing for the windies or lanka, in particular if I was trying(abject failure) to be a fast bowler. Now suggest to an aussie or kiwi child that they pretend to be pakistani... "Get *#&$#, I'm not going to play as one of those $*#&@(# max fixing, can't bat, can't bowl scum"
Sorry I was going to say something rude, then I remembered that france has banned search engines as being against the spirit of the republic. Driving tractors to paris = good. Using google = a threat to national stability.betiko wrote:what does cricket mean? I thought it was a funny insect.

i googled it and it said insect. it says it can be a plague.BoganGod wrote:Sorry I was going to say something rude, then I remembered that france has banned search engines as being against the spirit of the republic. Cricket is a game played by mad dogs and english men(the only two types of mammals that will go out into the hot sun for extended periods of time by choice).
A game like rugby, football and darts, that the english invented for other nations to beat them at.
The americans dumbed down cricket, made it less athletic, more stop start and better for advertising. Called it baseball.

Actually it is nice to watch when u start to know smore about it and get to know some players . It is also to good for those days when you are quite tired but dont want to sleep just yet .So you lay down a bit in front of the tv to get asleep in secondsbetiko wrote:dude, i don't know how you americans can watch a baseball game in the first place... isn't it always over 3h???
While I tell you this I do enjoy watching a good disputed game of tennis, which can last.... a whole week with a 5th set at 69-71 lol
I agree. while I am a big Detroit Tigers fan, I usually only watch them in person (I also live without cable TV and they are rarely on the local network TV I get with our bunny ears). I actually prefer to go to the minor league games...same experience (with lesser players) but a smaller hometown crowd is a bit more enjoyable for me, and the beer and peanuts are cheaper. I do watch the Tigers during the playoffs when I can, but that is about it.shaneback wrote:Baseball is only good in person or on the radio. Nothing like sitting in the afternoon sun with a cold beer, a bag of peanuts, and trying to figure out the scoreboard stumper.
I agree baseball on TV can be boring.
I have no clue what is going on in cricket
