No it's not Helloween, but rather time for an interview with b00060. While we are on freestyle check out the latest offering from the mafia files and ... drum roll ... a new set of challenges. Leehar's team brings us updates on CC3, CL5 and other Clan happenings. Dukasaur's team really went to town with some in depth stuff from both DaveH and generalhead and ... drum roll ... another new challenge!! And while the foundry may look a little thin this issue, you guessed it, there's ... drum roll ... another challenge!! So while you all get to your homework, we're going to collapse in a small heap before working on what delights to tempt you with next week.

What is It?
No True Scotsman refers to the stereotypical behavior that is expected of a role or player. If the player deviates from that expected behavior, it could be construed as a tip that the player is being deceitful.
Example

Two short weeks ago, TOFU held an 11-9 lead over KORT through 20 finished games, and it was unclear who would be the first to push out to a significant advantage. With 15 more games now in the books, TOFU has managed to do just that. Now leading 24-12, TOFU compiled a 12-6 record in batch 1 and 10-5 record in batch 2. Top performers for TOFU continue to be Master Fenrir (9-1), Denise (8-1), and Iron Maid (6-0). loes has the top performance for KORT so far, a perfect (4-0). Based on chatter in the thread, it sounds like KORT is down but not out, as they appear to have the advantage in several unfinished games... this one could yet come down to the wire!
The next two weeks should be exciting for this battle between these two elite clans, so don't miss out.
Also, here's freakns's prediction on the games in progress:

AFOS led 14-12 against AOC when last we checked in. Another third of the war has finished, and AFOS have pushed their lead to 5 games in finished games now, with 15 games and a tie-breaker yet to come, AFOS have to be sitting happy with the possibility of needing as little as 6 more games for the win and a few games already appearing to be heavily leaning their way. As close as this battle has been, it's no surprise that there are not many spotless records, but some top performs have been Hook2 with a match high 6 wins, vintender with a 5-2 record, and watsy at a perfect 4-0. Would appear AOC have their work cut out for them to pull back in to this one, we'll see if they can generate enough chaos to do the trick.
We should get a pretty good sense of how this one will finish in the coming weeks, so be sure to stay tuned.

The defending Clan League Association champions reside in Qualifying Group 6, which does not bode well for their competition.
Knights of the Round Table (KORT) won CLA4, defeating Agents of Chaos 22-19 in the final. KORT is back for a chance at defending its title and is the clear cut favorite to win Group 6. KORT is also in the semifinals of Conquer Cup 3, which could provide a bit of a distraction in the early going, but the depth of the Cows should easily carry them through the group.
One Step Ahead and The Headless Horsemen figure to battle it out for second place and get that coveted spot in the Premier League.
OSA has quickly put itself on the cusp of the elite level clans, but needs a signature victory or two. Advancing to the Premier League and hanging with the big boys would certainly accomplish that.
The Headless Horsemen don't have quite the same pedigree as OSA, but the quality of their play is definitely on par. The winner of HH vs. OSA will obviously have the upperhand in moving onto the Premier League.
The New Crusade, Devil's Brigade and Les Hussards du Dragon are likely fighting for third, though all are capable of pulling an upset, especially given the small sample size of the eight-game format.

Find the Secret Room by (The Chatters)

The Live Chat Team brings you a scavenger hunt with a twist (of lime). Just as with any scavenger hunt we’re going to give you clues and you have to go and find. In this case you’ll have to find the room(s). Each room is a secret known only to a select few but we’ll give you the opportunity to learn those secrets while you attempt to gain more points than anyone else and earn yourself a nice shiny General Achievement medal (well shiny assuming you’ve cleaned your screen recently).
We’re not going to tell you just yet exactly when it will start… All we’ll say is that it will be sometime during March. There is a rumour going around that it will be run at least twice so everyone can have a chance but who knows how these rumours get started. Be on the lookout for further clues that will reveal the date, and time as well as the instructions for the hunt.
If I were you though I wouldn’t be sharing too many secrets… You can never tell where they will end up!

How did you come to Volunteer as a TD? - I was running many tournaments at the time, and it was just something I was interested in doing, to help out. I was spending quite a lot of time on the site at that time, so it made sense to me. Night Strike is in my clan, so I volunteered to him. Took quite a long time before I was accepted, and given a role.
How long have you been a volunteer? - About 16 months now, I believe.
Was volunteering as a TD what you expected and did you expect to be doing it this long? - Yes, I'd say it was what I expected. I started out working with new tournaments, inputting them into the database, and awarding privileges when they filled. I have since become the mod responsible for handing out medals once tournaments have been completed. Steelhorse had been handling that, so I didn't expect to move into that role, but I enjoy it. As far as how long I'd be doing this, I really didn't have any expectations, so I'm just happy I'm still able to help out.
Can you give me a favorite quote about volunteering as a TD? - It's not really a quote, but after I became a mod, I found out that Lindax had serious concerns about making me a TD. I'm happy to say that I've exceeded all his expectations.
How did you come to choose you avatar? - I rotate between Detroit and Michigan sports. Currently, I'm going with the helmet worn by the Michigan Wolverines. I've also used the Detroit Red Wings, Detroit Lions, and Detroit Tigers. I'm from Detroit, and love Detroit sports.
Can you tell us something about yourself that we don't know? - My right knee has been hurting me for over a week, at times somewhat seriously so, and I'm slightly concerned that I might have ligament damage.

I am writing an article for the CC Newsletter showcasing the Tournament Directors and was wondering if I could ask you a few questions for the article? Yes, of course.
How did you come to Volunteer as a TD? Well, before they had open callouts, I had told Night Strike (the Tournament Department Head) that I was willing to be a Tournament Director. Then, they had callouts for a Clan Director. It seemed to me that the TDs weren't needing anyone, so I went ahead and applied for that, because I wanted to be able to help out. At the same time, I was approached to see if I wanted to be a Suggestions mod, because I was active there. What ended up happening was a few PMs sent between myself, Night Strike, Bruceswar (head CD), clapper011 (head of suggs at the time), and Andydufresne. We came to the decision to have me help with tournaments because that's what I liked the most.
How long have you been a volunteer? It will be a year in a few weeks.
Was volunteering as a TD what you expected and did you expect to be doing it this long? It wasn't exactly what I expected. For the tournament directors, there is a lot of behind the scenes work; putting things into the database, checking tournaments, fielding questions and complaints, issuing medals, etc. I thought that we would get a chance to be involved in more site changes. However, there weren't many changes to get involved in. Hopefully that's changing in the future.
Can you give me a favorite quote about volunteering as a TD? Hmmm. Nothing comes to mind right now.
How did you come to choose you avatar? Well, at the time I chose it, I was really into trying to find a family crest for myself. I went searching on the internet and found this.

How did you come to Volunteer as a TD? After running tournaments for almost 2 years, I saw the call out for TD volunteers and I thought it would be a great experience plus a way to give back to the community.

Was volunteering as a TD what you expected and did you expect to be doing it this long? For the most part it was what I expected there is always a few surprises.lol I didn't really have a time set in mind for how long I would volunteer, I just figured till they kicked me out or till I was no longer playing CC.
Can you give me a favorite quote about volunteering as a TD? I have so many favorites via pm,but can't quote them to protect the innocent...or not so innocent.

League Tournaments - part 2
In this article I will continue with the steps I am using to continue the 2012 NFL season tournament I picked up from flexmaster33.
The first thing I had to do was to update two weeks of results. Using Game Finder and selecting the tournament and then pressing the "Tour Stats" button, I selected the Results page which looks like:
and copied all the results and pasted into Excel.
I sorted by the tournament number and then made it into a Lookup table by selecting the whole table, going to Insert/Name Define and called it "Results". This table links game numbers to Winning Round and Players.
I next needed to find all the games for the "Week 10" results, which was by using Game Finder with "W10" in the Game Label box under the tournament name. The easiest way of doing this is to paste the largest game number at the top of a column and copy the formula "=CelNoAbove-1". This creates a game number one less than the largest game number - and so on down the column. This works very well if all the games had been created consecutively, but there are invariably gaps which means I have to change the formula substituting -2, -3 etc for the -1 in some places in order to replicate the order exactly. OK, so I have checked and have a list of Week 10 games numbers, so I copy the list and select the menu Edit/Paste Special/Values to translate the formulae into numerals (formulas are OK but one error at the top of the table can spread all the way down!).
In the next columns I may want the winning player; losing player and Round number of the win. This is easy to do by selecting the VLookup function to lookup the relevant data from the table we just created. The function is VLOOKUP(Game Number Column, Results, 4, FALSE) for getting the data from column 2 of the Results table (Winning Player); VLOOKUP(Game Number Column, Results, 5, FALSE) for Losing Player; VLOOKUP(Game Number Column, Results, 3, FALSE) for Round Number.
In the next column I may want the Score attributed to winning in that particular round. This is obtained using another Vlookup function looking up the Score from a table based on the winning round. The scores that were used in this tournament were;
With a 50 round limit, in Excel I needed to have a table of Round Number (from 1 to 50); Winning Points and Losing Points which I called Score and, for the special game field goal points a table called ScoreS with Round Number (1 to 50) and Winning Points. To get these points into the next column of my table I used the function VLOOKUP(WINNING ROUND CELL, Score, 2, FALSE) and VLOOKUP(WINNING ROUND CELL, Score, 3, FALSE) for the winning and losing points respectively. I also had to paste in the VLOOKUP(WINNING ROUND CELL, ScoreS, 2, FALSE) formula in those places where the special maps were used.
To get the Team Names into the next column of my table, I had to create a Vlookup table of the Players Names (in alphabetical order and called "Players") next to the team name they represented, so the two functions VLOOKUP(WINNING PLAYER CELL, Teams, 2, FALSE) and VLOOKUP(LOSING PLAYER CELL, Teams, 2, FALSE) put the team names of winners and losers into the next columns respectively.
My completed table now had:
Game Number; Winning Player Name; Losing Player Name; Round Number; Winning Team Points; Losing Team Points; Winning Team; Losing Team, which gives me all the data I need to update the results for Week 10. Having created the various lookup tables, it was straight forward to do the same for the next week's data.
To simplify the process of extracting the data from the tables into a master scoresheet I created a Visual Basic Routine, which I will describe in the next article.

Now, I am looking at other types of tournaments and scoring systems by all you innovative TO's out there. So, if you have a unique scoring system that you would like me to have a go at automating, please let me know and I'll be pleased to try and assist. There is little to report in this edition as no additional tournaments have finished. The lower positions of Merch313's "Asia Terminator" tournament are still awaiting the completion of the final game.

A suggestion dealing with maps cropped up in te suggestions forum again. Go and look if you like medals. DaveH asked how many territories are on each of the maps. Well, as usual, our beloved leader (in the foundry that is) thenobodies80 was on hand to help out. Number of Territories on Conquer Club Maps. Hopefully our beloved reporters will be back on duty next issue. Real life has had them snowed under. So whilst we are a little light this issue, can you help out in the future? Now the 12 maps are easy to find, if you know the map. So if no one can find all 12, I will award the medal to the one who find the most.
