Thank you all for playing, and a special thanks to WorldCup4James without whom this would not have happened!
DK's Christmas Quads
With all the positive feedback I got on DK's Christmas Quads tournament last year, I definitely wanted to do it again. We've been asked to launch this on December 24h, so we will need everybody signed up before then.
We? Yes, [player]WorldCup4James[/player] has volunteered to be my co-organiser on this one. Actually, he's going to do most of the work, but he's very generously agreed to let me have the credit.
Note: Format has changed!
The original design was for eight teams, single Round Robin, every team plays every other team once, for a net total of seven games each. We are currently at 14 teams and are going to try for 16.
Either way, this will now be a two-step tournament. In the first round robin, you will be randomly separated into two divisions of either 7 or 8 teams. Everybody plays everybody (so either 6 games or 7) and the top four teams go to the second round robin, where again everybody plays everybody, for another 7 games. All seven games will be posted at once, so you must be premium to enter this.
Scoring and tiebreak system stays the same.
I understand that this is a substantial change in the format, so no hard feelings if anyone is unhappy about it and wants to drop out. But I do hope that after reflecting on it you decide to stay!
Settings: Casual Automatic No Spoils Chained Foggy No Round Limit No Trench Quads
Map: Christmas
(Tournament rules require us to specify a back-up map for a limited access map. The back-up map, although we do NOT expect to need it, will be the Arctic, home of Santa Claus!)
The team winning the most games wins the tournament. In case of a tie, we go to:
1. WIns by objective: We will give an extra win for each win by Map Objectives (as opposed to killing off the other team) and see if that breaks the tie. This will apply ONLY as a tiebreaking rule; there will be no extra wins awarded to teams who are not tied for first place.
2. Fastest Wins: Looking only at the game you won, we will count the rounds it took. So, a team that won (for instance) 5 games in 60 rounds will beat a team that needed 70 rounds to finish its 5 wins.
3. Slowest Losses: In the extremely unlikely case that there is still a tie after rule 1 and rule 2 are applied, we will go to the converse. Looking at the games you lost, how long did you survive? A team that survived 20 rounds in its two lost games will beat a team that only survived 18 rounds.
Please sign up quickly, so that we can be sure to start this tournament on December 24th.
It will help us all get in the spirit if you sign up your team with a cheerful Christmas-y team name. Not exactly mandatory, but if you don't play along, James might just decide to record you as "Scrooge's Appendix Scars" or some other expression of his creativity!
