I play anyone anywhere anytime even on maps I know I suck at. (You know who you are King of the Mountains). So I guess while there is a lot of what the original poster was implying there are some of us that don't really care about rank too much.

i still play some open games, but the majority of my games are colonels games....and though points matter, they dont at all matter as much as not worrying about cheaters, compulsive neg feedback generators, players that are litterally just out to ruin others games...

Any player that is truly good, will eventually achieve rank, and I will play them...there are some I do not play, that are probably better than me, but they are just out of site...but compared to the risk of having game after game ruined by bad moves, purposely bad moves, or just generally negative players....Ill accept the stigma of elitist if I have to...but you may want to jump in a game with me before you make such an accusation....

I occasionally lose my colonels hat, and cant play in the colonels games....so, I work to get my points so I can play in them....I dont complain that they wont play with me....or that they are snobs, or that they are aristocratic risk-like game players who feel they are above my station in life....I just try to win, so I can play them...give it a whirl...see what happens
I'm Spanking Monkey now....err...I mean I'm a Spanking Monkey now...that shoots milk

i agree. all high rankers are afraid to play low ranked players because they want to preserve points. thats why they dont play me. someday I will get alot of points and show those guys whos really top dog. Until than, I will stick to playing the rest of us low rankers.

Please johny, those are all triples games you play against noobs. Nobodies afraid to play noobs in trips. It's playing singles games against noobs that is a problem, because one can screw you over and the next can win.

I'm fairly new as far as games played, (I would be a Captain if I had enough games in) but I hate playing noobs because your so often not playing. I don't have a premium, so if I end up with a few deadbeats, I may only take 4 turns a day . . . I know I know, invest the 20 bucks.

I simply want to play a game where I can play more than every other day.

I can't speak for others, but for me...yes. Total coward all the way.

I can't imagine what I would do if "simtom" joined one of my games and beat me. What would you guys do if the lowest ranked player here totally destroyed you in a game?

I like playing open games to meet new people and play where not everyone uses the same strategy. However I haven't been playing many lately because of some bad experiences I had in recent open games.

In one, I was playing against a multi that I had personally busted. I mentioned it in the game chat so the others would be aware, and in the end that character was personally threatening me, and saying they would keep creating names and coming into all my future games to beat me until I was a private again. Empty threats of course but dealing with things like that really detracts from open games. I've faced a few too many argumentative hotheads, multis and people who simply don't understand the game. They can be fun some times but often I'd prefer to play with people who have some kind of reputation around here (good or bad, I'd like to know what to expect at least).

Elitism

Postby Thaisleeze on Thu May 03, 2007 6:33 am

Interesting to read everyones comments, I agree with most of them. But we are hardly creating an environment that encourages newcomers. No shock that a newly signed up player, who wants to join a game and get playing asap then finds himself getting hammered by a bunch of seniors, because these are just about the only games available to him, and then deadbeats, which we all then complain about.

How about creating a public game list not available to officers?

ok, then i dare you to look at my current open games, the one's i joined and didn't start, and tell me who the multi's are. no one ever said that high-ranked multis don't exist, just that if you join public games w/ people you don't know, you don't know what you'll get.

wicked wrote:And as far as stoopid moves go, higher ranks are not immune to that. I could present several examples.

do you ever get tired of being contrary just for the hell of it? well, you may not get tired of it, and that's fine, but you should know that disagreeing with someone just for fun doesn't ensure that you will have a solid argument. in this case, it just lets everyone know that you have an irrational dislike for high-ranked/elite players. your point is asinine.

and this is just odd. i thought the problem was not enough open games for low rankers and that big score folks don't join public games. now you're saying the opposite: low rankers should be protected from high rankers, even to the point of having a separate games list. you also changed the core issue from players motives to marketing the site. are you high?

chillax nephilim, wicked just likes to poke fun and play devils advocate which can sometimes be helpful and sometimes of course be a tad annoying. also i think it might not be a bad idea to be able to set a limit on the top rank who may join particular games. for example maybe you could have some sergeant games or the like as it will be beneficial to lower ranked players who keep losing to more experienced higher ranking players.

i join or set up public games all the time. i am a captain at the moment i have been up to major a couple of times. i am not arsed if noobs join because we were all noobs at sometime or other. i have few games going at the moment on classic, stand, esc and unlim 6 players and in 2 of them we are all captains or majors except 1 leuitenant. so it is just who joins what game 1st.

no worries, mate, but it appears you don't know wicked that well, or you just haven't read a lot of her posts on this or related topics. maybe if you had, you would see what i mean.

and i think there are sergeant games, aren't there? and can't all this be solved by being the last person to join a game? look for a game w/ one slot left, players with rank that suits you, and join. or, get some friends to play with
