Should people be banned for bigotry even if it is in Flame Wars?

HEY BK, DON'T CALL ME A MORON!!! just kidding. it's funny that Gerazan was so quickly brought up in this discussion. we (myself, bk, nephilim, and a few others) had an interesting debate about this several weeks ago that I think bears mentioning. see the thread here:

http://www.conquerclub.com/forum/viewto ... ht=gerazan

I was really bothered by the kind of stuff that Gerazan and his ilk put in their threads and comments on this site, and so I posted in the abuse and cheating forum hoping to get some mod commentary. I got none (so don't hold your breath hecter). It seems as though the admin has taken a hands-off approach and left it to the reasonable folks on this site to expose the bigoted fools for what they are. I also think that the question of who gets banned and who decides is a good one that bk raises. that's a slippery slope that the mods have diligently avoided. and after a lot of thought about it, I think it's the right way to handle things. Otherwise the mods would perpetually be in a battle to keep things under control and those who post would have to seriously consider the ramifications of what they say. I don't think any of us really want that. Unfortunately, that means we will have to put up with the true dregs of humanity who choose to use the CC forums to spew ridiculous nonsensical hate-mongering viewpoints. we must accept the bad with the good or the whole thing goes down the shitter.

What about an official Ignore list. A list of people who aren't totally banned from the site but have had numerous reports from members on the site of poor behavior. All the names on the list would be suggestion only and allow people to make their own decisions about whether they want to play or read posts from that person.

The idea is kind of scratchy but I think it would be a good add-on. I will even volunteer to mod it if need be. I think it would be a healthy addition to the site, in fact I am going over to the suggestions forum right NOW!

I like this idea. I'll back it in your suggestions thread.

Sounds like you might have something there GC. If implemented correctly, it could prove interesting. Put it on the suggestions forum and i'll back it too. If you would, PM me and let me know when you do it so i don't miss it.

Banning

I've no interest in making racist/sexist/whateverist comments on this site or any other, but I wouldn't be comfortable using the site if it practiced such censorship. There's never sufficient justification for censorship.

There's actually a guy on this site named "Tiny Tim". He partnered up with me once in a doubles match. I'll pass on your sentiments to him as well.
