frankly i dont care, i am white and anybody could say whatever they want about me being white, we're all humans no matter who says what or whos offended. People of all races and sexuality do great things everyday, and if they get offended then there dumb. They should also realize that who they are can never be taken from them and that in alot of ways there great no matter whats said, words mean nothing, they really dont, stuff like this is just dumb to think about, i have no problem with any races what so ever even though i say racial slurs from time to time, we live in a world where if someone says anything someone is offended so whats the point of saying anything at all. Humans no matter who they are or what they do are still human and if they dont think that about themselves when someone says racail things about them then thats there problem. Even though i say slurs i still know there a person and they do great things everyday. I say just drop it.

about 5 families of African Americans moved up here as well, just so thier kids grew up in a better environment than the bigger cities, and the trash talk is endless...its disgusting and retarded the things you here up here

The point is you're white, you don't know what is offensive to them. I went through a Taco Bell drive through and asked the guy "are your Mexican Pizzas made with fresh Mexicans or the frozen kind?" It doesn't matter if you think that's offensive. The guy happened to be Hispanic and he thought it was funny. What are you going to do, call him up and say "the white people all took a vote and we've decided you have to be offended"?

You really need to watch a Lisa Lampanelli act. She's a white comedian makes all kinds of totally offensive and racist jokes. You can be all offended if you want, but all the minorities in the audience are laughing their asses off. Yes, but how can the moderators distinguish? Estimate if something is funny or not? If you're going to enforce something as a rule, it has to be either allowed or not allowed. If someone said those things in General Discussion, people would just say "that's just ignorant flaming, that belongs in Flame Wars." Saying that kind of thing doesn't belong even in Flame Wars is basically saying they should eliminate Flame Wars. Everything there is offensive, thus the nature of the forum.

I would agree with this. You can be offended by the ignorant nature of it, but these people ARE IGNORANT. As long as they're being themselves, it's going to be something ignorant. Let them have their own forum, it keeps them off the real ones.

Banning actually would depend on the site rules....

if nothing in the site rules they read BEFORE signing up prohibits this, & no amendments to the existing rules prohibiting this AFTER somebody joins...then i don't see how they can enforce a ban...especially when they allow it in the Flame Forum....

It tells me its allowed by the site owner(s).

They should spell out the rules as to what can and cannot be said anywhere on the site...

personally..I don't even go into the flame forum...so I don't even know what goes on in there...but I've read other posts about it..and it doesn't seem like a nice place to go into

But does it really matter? Even if they get their own forums, people are still gonna get offended. You see, the thing here is, is that you can't let people get to you like that. You know that they are assholes, no matter where they post. This is why I'm indifferent. All forums are gonna have assholes, and they're gonna have people that are offended. Funny, mods themselves have broken the last three of those rules.

I'm not sure how you can apply all those to Flame Wars when "trolling" IS Flame Wars. Pretty much every thread in that forum violates that last rule in just as offensive a manner, it just happens they don't always use bigotry.

If you can't do any of that stuff, what is the point in the Flame Wars Forum? If you follow those guidelines, anything you post can be covered in General Discussion, Callouts, and Social Lounge.

I find all the talk about banning to be rather cowardly. The mods have done an incredible job here, and i am thoroughly impressed with the way they govern this site. We have an atmosphere here at CC that encourages a free exchange of ideas and viewpoints, with a minimum of racist bullshit. I'm 55 years old, and i have seldom seen such an accomplishment as this. To maintain such an atmosphere is no small feat. It requires a great deal of wisdom and self denial. Most people (as is evidenced by the ones who would love to see more banning) love to exercise control over others, and i find the mods' propensity to keep a low profile very impressive. Hell , they haven't even offered their opinion once on this thread, in spite of repeated requests to do so. We have however, seen them step in when someone really gets out of hand. Young people here on the site have an opportunity to see racist nonsense exposed for what it is by some pretty good minds. It's a good educational experience for them, and they won't get it if we simply ban the wankers. Once you start the ban thing rolling, it's like a snowball, and before you know it, people are afraid to express their opinions and instead of diversity, we have a nice, politically correct environment where we sit around and blow sunshine up each others' arses. I take some of your points on board. Especially about the benefits of exposing racism for the nonsense it is, on reflection I do agree with this. Perhaps some of the chat is a bit ban happy - but there really should be an effort to exclude consistent offenders or at least some proactive warnings from the mods in reply to outrageous bigotry.

I voted yes for a ban on bigotry in general. However, I don't think that it can be fairly enforced. The definition of bigoted remarks would have to be very clearly defined.

I couldn't count how many anti-Christian bigoted remarks I've read here. Are those people going to be banned as well...I doubt it. The people who make them probably feel like they're doing the CC community a service by making them. So you see the problem would be in the definition of what is bigotry.

Why can't we let the definition be put to a site wide vote. We could even have case by case votes. That way we know exactly what the site in general feels is ok and not ok.

It could even be on a voluntary basis. you only vote if you want to. It would make the society more accountable and not Mods, or lack. Rule by the people so to speak!

The problem with a vote is that you have quite a few morons on this site. I could trust your vote and that of a few others, even if we disagree, but when you give an equal voice to salr15, millej, wisse, (and yes) hitler, etc. - just to name a few, i feel much safer to leave the running of the site to the mods.
