i hate that some of these news stations say a second of it, and then talk about a local beekeeper, or cracking down on illegal music downloads. things that dont matter have more importance than the most deadly shooting ever. makes me sick

I saw it on the internet as I came home. Fucking insane.
Apparently school shooting is the avarage American maniac's favorite hobby. Each country with their weirdos.

We just need the plot from "Runaway Jury" to happen in real life. That is an excellent movie on the topic of gun restriction IMHO.

My condolences to all those affected by this incident. I have a few friends at that school and it was pretty scary not knowing if everyone was alright at first. It's terrible that someone can cause damage to so many lives in this way.

i'm amazed the gunman killed 32 people with a 9mm handgun. i mean, that's an almost impossible feat even in video games.

So he used a HANDGUN and killed so many people? I didn't read about the weapon used.
Wow... Not only the campus failed to cancel classes and evacuate the whole thing while someone was murdered in the dorms (And odds were, he would do something else), but no one tried to stop him OR he had incredible accuracy with the gun. I though that he was using a SMG or something of the genre due to the amount of causilaties.

He had belts of ammo clips. He didn't just walk in with a single gun.

Actually, he had two different handguns, from what I've heard. Both had the serial numbers filed off, as well..

Not to mention... Who knows anything about this kid...? Maybe he has never done anything wrong in his life... Maybe he purchased the gun years ago... Who can say?

yeah why not let amerika give AL QAIDa freaking nuclear missiles if they fire them you could also say it wasnt the "inanimate object" but the one who uses it. The fact is that 32 people are now dead through that inanimate object if america had different law concerning guns this wouldnt happen so often. How many have died on schools now? I remember the documentary of the fat bearded dude cant come up with his name Bowling for Columbine maybe amerika should watch it

He had 2 handguns and huge amount of ammunition and the shooting in the school hall was 1,5 hours after the dorm shooting so i gues he had some time

One of my old hydraulics professors, Prof. Loganathan, was among the killed. The shooter attacked an Advanced Hydrology class and killed many Civil Engineering students. Years ago, that's a class I was sitting in. This is all still so unbelievable.

NO one could have predicted the person who shot the first two people in West AJ was planning to do what he did in Norris as well. Rumors are it was a domestic incident between this girl and the gunman... and the RA shot had tried to break it up. When there's a domestic shooting in a house, police don't assume the guy is then going to go to the mall and shoot everyone there. Yes, they'll go look for the guy and investigate, WHICH VT POLICE WERE DOING. I don't fault the VT police or admin for how they handled it. They were acting on what was known at the time.

Okay, you people with your American bashing you can now stop... the shooter was a Korean National, he only had a US resident alien card. And since he wasnt a citizen he couldnt buy a gun. He had to go to the back alley to get the firearms that he used... the same back alleys that I am sure exists in every gun-fearing country in the world.

So stop the US bashing with their "love of violence" and their "love to shoot up schools" and start the Korean bashing, because the guy was a flipping Korean.

Thank you.

In video games, people are shooting back. Actually, I've heard some people saying that violent video games help to create the mindset necessary to begin a mass killing, but this seems the wrong time to enter that debate, just like it is the wrong time to debate the gun control issue. (Joep)

Get your facts straight. The shooter moved to the US when he was 8, and had his green card, so could legally buy a gun in VA. He had receipts for the purchase of the Glock, one of the guns used. No matter what the law is, even if he couldn't have bought it legally, he could've obtained one illegally. When someone is that deranged, a gun law won't stop him.

Oh yes, racism: the best response to tragedy!

Wicked, I really feel for you. Its terrifying to know that you were in the same situation as people who have died, and especially as it was one of your old professors.

And as for the arguments, lets keep them to the gun control thread not this one.

A resident alien card is a "green card". The cards haven't been green in like 40 years... they are now a pink/peach color now. I was unaware that resident aliens could buy pistols... I thought that only US citizens could.

The point to my post was that I was sick of the international people saying that the shooting was something that US people do. By making the point that the shooter wasn't an American, it proves that deranged people come form all walks of life and that foreigners shouldn't be holier then thou.

And the other point that I made was the same that you said... that even if he couldn't get the gun legally he still could have gotten it illegally. Basically saying that I could get a gun anywhere if I am will to break the law. And that no matter how tough gun laws are in other countries tragedies like this can still happen.

Sorry about that... I posted before I saw what you wrote.

And for the record it is not racism to say bad things about Korean Nationals, it is simply nationalistic.

Very well put. This should be about expressing condolences for the victims of this shocking tragedy and their families. Personally, during class today I tried to imagine what those poor students must have gone through and felt, and I couldn't.

As has already been discussed, he had lived in America since he was 8.... Longer than he lived in Korea.
