I can't find anything in the guidelines that the thread went against. Everyone please feel free to share what you know here. Then the mods can just merge this into the one that already exists.

Could someone please explain what was wrong with the thread about historical facts regarding Mormonism? It was never bashing the religion.

Quit the innocent act, its insulting.

Like john9blue said, you are a bigoted anti-mormon with an agenda. You and I and everyone else know that you are not interested in "sharing facts about mormonism". You are here to try and cast a negative shadow on the Mormon gospel by using half truths and innuendo.

You are using the same sad and tired act that every other two bit anti-mormon uses. Its old and boring....worst part is that you are not very good at it.

Go take a trip over to www.concernedchristians.org and get a few pointers from Bob Betts. His full time job is to be an anti-mormon and he gets paid a nice salary to do so.

Oh wow, you're really getting personal there, friend. I was just talking about a religion, not you as a person.

And it is all true. It all comes from either Mormon religious texts or crime statistics.

YOU'RE BIG AND FAT! THAT'S MY OPINION TOO, FATTY!

Why don't you post some examples of dave's bigotry?

(I really don't know if you are big and fat, I am only using that as an example. I don't like pig-in-a-pokes and never take things at face value. Just because someone says something about somebody else doesn't mean it's true.)

Still waiting on that explanation...

The lock is arbitrary. There have been plenty of threads and posts in other religions. I remember when peoPle actually had to correct certain facts or views with well-informed arguments.

Apparently, the few offended by the Mormonism thread don't believe so. It seems that if they whine loud enough, then the thread gets locked. Instead of debating on here, why don't we all just stick to bitching and moaning?

"wahhhh! I don't like addressing facts and correction opinions!! I just want certain people to shut up!!! Wahhh!!! <pounds fists on desk>"

20. Mormonism forbids discussion on the silliness of its views. All contrarian opinions shall be locked and punished.

As far as I can tell, it was locked because it was made by PimpDave. A discussion of the facts and an analysis of the beliefs of Protestants, Catholics, Westboro Baptists, Judaism, or Islam, would likely not have been treated that way.

Perhaps most importantly, two of the candidates for the Republican ticket are, or have been Mormons, and a significant part of the campaign for or against them will be based on a discussion of their faith. Simply shutting down criticism and analysis of a faith that is not widely understood seems strange. I don't particularly trust evangelical Christianity, Wahabi Islam, or Ultra-Orthodox Judaism, and I think a discussion on the topic of the beliefs of someone running for president while espousing those beliefs would be a worthwhile topic.

But yeah- those arguments are all pretty self-evident. This sort of looks like someone who dislikes PD complaining without the courage of their convictions. Instead complaining by pretending to be offended about something else.

I could, of course, be wrong, but I suspect that this complaint has come from someone who PD has disagreed with before, and that it wasn't a terribly convincing attempt. Just speculation here, but there are few threads that get locked as "pending" like this.

I gotta agree that discussion of Mormonism/the LDS church is appropriate today. I think one problem, though, is that unlike many of the other religions, there is too much of the LDS church that is supposed to be kept secret.. sometimes even from the members.

There are aspects of Roman Catholicism and Judaism that fit that mold, too. However, they have been around so long that most things have become much more open secrets. The LDS church is so much newer that there is a lot folks don't know.... along with a lot of heavy prejudice and bias (on both sides).

Threads looking at the beliefs, practices, and modern applications of Scientology come to mind.

alright, so after much discussion amongst the discussions/global moderators, heres the deal..if this thread is kept civil..it will stay open. Please remember that just because such threads may or may not exist, does not make it the soul belief of the whole site, only the views of some members of this site.

Is [player]blakebowling[/player] a global moderator? Or does his authority extend beyond the tech realm? And, is he able to pull rank on actual global moderators, such as [player]rdsrds2120[/player], who was posting in this thread before it was locked? Just curious about the actual chain of command here.

If the thread is going to be unlocked for a good reason, maybe, and this is, of course just a maybe, posters could vent their anger in the usual way that idiots treat these forums- by posting in general discussion about dice rolls. Perhaps the rest of us could discuss PD's points, and maybe, just maybe, those who disagree with him could post replies rather than complaints.
