You can't vote "yes"... the nearest thing is "um...ya".

You cite one horrific news story as proof that scots are.. what? violent? Did the OJ Simpson murder make all black people killers?
According to the U.S. judicial branch and the jury, it didn't even make him a killer.

The reason it took England nearly 300 years was because Wales had the longbow, which was very dangerous at the time, and because they used their abundant forest to fight a guerrilla war. But apart from that I don't know much about Wales. It just kinda gets overshadowed.

Correct. Oooh, heavycola, you racist.

Errm... Original poster was not 100% correct. Forgive me for a little (semi) professional scorn, but a book about Robin Hood is not exactly the best place to start on medieval Wales...
But you are essentially correct. The guerilla warfare was certainly an issue, not just because of the terrain but also because of the makeup of Welsh forces, which was usually based around smaller clan/tribal type groups rather than feudal armies. As for weapons, the medieval Welsh actually primarily used both javelins and shorter bows, made of elm not yew, because they were more effective and powerful at short range. The bows were, however, pretty shitty in open battle, and Welsh forces nearly always suffered heavy defeats when fighting out of cover. The Welsh Longbow was a brilliant weapon, and contributed to many astounding victories, but it was made for long-range accuracy rather than short range armour-piercing power.
Ultimately, however, the reason Wales held out for so long is perhaps an indication that the Norman lords did not see it as a prize worth ploughing everything into. It was certainly a thorn in the side of the English, but not too important in the scale of things.

Totally agree. Every world cup that comes along it's all about how England are going to win it when they don't really have much of a chance. They've been humbled that many times (Northern Ireland 1 England 0)) that I can't believe they still have faith. Tennis is the same - no chance of winning any of the majors but the English hope all the way anyway.
