Are you serious? I don't know of any fault that stretches that far. Also, we did not feel it here in PA... and if it was the same quake, we should have.GreecePwns wrote:Felt like I was sitting on a waterbed for a minute or two, and then it was done. A 5.9 is big enough to feel & cause damage to poorly constructed buildings. Its when people start talking about the 4.0 "quakes" that I roll my eyes.

I was on a conference call at the time with a guy in Dallas and a guy down the street in Philadelphia. When it happened me and the guy in Philadelphia went silent. The entire building shook for a good 10 to 20 seconds. A partner came into my office and said, "What the f*ck was that?" I had a call with someone in Toronto, who also felt the quake right after. At that point, our building evacuated and we all tried to get home. I went to a bar and drank a few beers. Back at home now.
Scary shit dudes and dudettes. Many props to the west coasters who get this shit all the time. The weirdest part was we were all standing outside our building and about half an hour later, some random security guard says, "You can go back in and get your stuff... they checked the building out." I was like, "How many structural engineers that are earthquake specialists work in Philadelphia?" Anyway... scary shit.

In fairness, they don't happen all the time. I can remember exactly 5 notable quakes in my lifetime out there, though a friend in the geology department used to inform us about 5.0 or so quakes all the time. Those are less noticeable than a big truck passing. In some cases, buildings are built better. Also, CA is a big state.thegreekdog wrote:Scary shit dudes and dudettes.
