Back in the eighties, that hair metal crap was so popular, and it just became utterly asinine. Like Poison or WASP and their flaming cod-pieces. After years of the stuff, something else came along (grunge), and it wasn't in fashion anymore, because it was just too much, and people realized it. This allowed good metal to survive (like Pantera and Sepultura), and now we've got some decent metal today, although it's not in radio play.
I think (or hope rather) that this is what'll happen to the shit today. Something better(? at least different) will come along, and people will realize just how stupid some of this shit they've been listening to really is, and it won't be popular anymore.

It's like that Batman quote...either you die while a good rapper (Tupac, Biggie, etc.) or live long enough to see yourself become a complete sellout (Ice Cube, Snoop, etc.).

I am seriously considering blowing my head off with a shotgun. I don't want to live in a world where this is considered music.

Music operates within the market, and those who understand the market will deliver the music that becomes well-known. The most popular or well-known music comes from excellent marketing (or occasionally from extreme luck). In other words, you could have the best music in the world, but if no one hears it, it doesn't really exist. The problem with "music cycles" revolves around three factors: 1) how much does marketing influence our musical interests, 2) how much do our musical interests influence marketing, and 3) how are musical interests developed?
If you can figure that out, then you could determine the new hotness.

You're just looking for love in all the wrong places.
I'd never even heard of the guy until this thread.
