In football news,
FIFA has released the qualifying draws for the 2014 World Cup. The UEFA seedings are very interesting:

UEFA World Cup Qualifying Draw
Group A Belgium, Croatia, Macedonia, Scotland, Serbia, Wales
Looks like a close battle between Serbia and Croatia, though the U.K. teams can also emerge victorious.

Group B Armenia, Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Denmark, Malta, Italy
At first glance, the group looks like a breeze for Italy, but a disappointing 2010 performance may make this group interesting. Denmark and Czech Republic both can challenge the 2006 champs.

Group C Austria, Faroe Islands, Germany, Kazakhstan, Ireland, Sweden
A relatively fair group for the Germans, but Ireland nearly qualified for 2010 after a dubious call in a do-or-die game against the French, and Sweden, as a dominant team in Scandinavia, can also upset the third-place Germans.

Group D Andorra, Estonia, Hungary, Netherlands, Romania, Turkey
Quite an easy group for the Dutch, with Turkey being the only real challenge for the 2010 World Cup runner-ups.

Group E Albania, Cyprus, Iceland, Norway, Slovenia, Switzerland
Without any dominant power, Group E is up for grabs. Switzerland and Slovenia were the only teams to have qualified in last year's Cup so it may be a close battle between those two.

Group F Azerbaijan, Israel, Luxembourg, Northern Ireland, Portugal, Russia
Portugal looks like the clear leader in this group, with Russia having to fight for a direct berth in the Cup.

Group G Bosnia and Herzegovina, Greece, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Slovakia
Perhaps the weakest group, Group G provides many Eastern European nations with a chance at their first World Cup appearance. Greece is the leader in terms of experience and skill, but Slovakia, having achieved clear success in 2010 after beating Italy and reaching the knock-out stage, also has a shot in this one.

Group H England, Moldova, Montenegro, Poland, San Marino, Ukraine
England, despite their shaky performances in 2010, should breeze through this group. Poland and Ukraine will have to battle for second.

Group I Belarus, Finland, France, Georgia, Spain
Group I is clearly UEFA's "Group of Death", as Spain and France both will struggle to secure first place and a spot in the Cup. Finland and the others will definitely have a tough time keeping up.

7/31 (July 31): England, Netherlands, Germany, and Hong Kong divisions have finished Round 1 play. Therefore, Round 2 has been created for those divisions.

Some divisions have already finished Round 2 play. But I won't be beginning Round 3 just yet because quite a few divisions are still in Round 1, so I don't want some divisions to get too far ahead and end up having a lot of downtime.

Yes, I sure see a lot of experienced players in each of those divisions. Looks like North America is the weakest league of them all, particularly the US divisions, San Fran is the strongest at only 20th power ranking.

The Henry handling was such a shame, I honestly am rooting for the Irish, particularly after the shameful performances and actions, both on and off the field, by the French team at the World Cup. They might as well have forfeited right then and there after the Ireland game. No doubt the Irish would have wanted the Cup more.

Honestly, most people blame the referees, but I do not. I think it is a stretch to argue that referees are corrupt.

The fact of the matter is that a crew of 3 is not enough for such a big game. Around the 90 minute mark, and as extra time passes, strange things happen, and I entirely blame FIFA, they need to fix the game and stand up for their referees. I am personally a referee and, even in youth soccer, it is impossible to see everything. Video replay, sensors, whatever it takes. Though adding more referees might not fix the problem. Technology needs to be involved.

On a general point, if you ever find that your record is incorrect on the standings updated, I would absolutely adore and love it if you could let me know. Those of you in Round 3, good luck! You'll be facing your last opponent of the division before the return round begins, in which you play all 3 opponents in reverse order. Thus, you'll play your Round 3 opponent twice in a row.

Why is it that only 1 team advances in the France group?

This is a very good question to ask.

I like to give players flexibility in their approach to divisional play.

In most divisions, 1 player advances, while in other divisions, 2 players advance.

The reason only one player advances from the France division (and 19 other divisions) is that this player advances directly to the European Finals.

Those divisions in which 2 players advance have to play further games (England, Wales, Scotland, Ireland, Luxembourg, and Netherlands divisions). In the end, one in 4 players makes it to a League Final, as is the case in EVERY league:

The League Final in any league will always be made up of one-quarter (1/4th) of the players in that league. In other words, 1 out of every 4 players will reach the League Final.

The World Cup Final (which has all the winners of the League Finals) will always be made up of one-sixteenth (1/16th) of the players in the tournament. In other words, 1 out of every 16 players will reach the World Cup Final.

The only reason there are no further games like this for France is that there is no contemporary map that encompasses France and Germany or any of the other divisions that have only one player advancing.

So, if you choose a division in which 2 players advance, you are giving yourself a greater chance to win in the divisional stage, but then it is tougher to make the European finals once you're in the conference stage.

But, if you join a division with only 1 player, then, if you're very experienced with the map, you are able to top the group and go DIRECTLY to the European finals.

There are 4 divisions in the British Isles Conference (16 players), and 4 players make it to the European finals. That maintains a 1:4 ratio.

There are 2 divisions in the BeNeLux Conference (8 players), and 2 players make it to the European finals. That maintains a 1:4 ratio.

In France, there are 4 players, and 1 player makes it to the European Finals. That also maintains a 1:4 ratio. It's just a matter of preference which type of format the player prefers.
